VIN 67 Mustang GT 390 Fastback Question

I would love this as a project.  Either go back as a 68 Shelby clone or sell original Shelby pieces
and do a restoration on a big block GT Mustang with Silver Frost Paint.

Issue that I see is the Ford VIN under the Shelby repop tag.  It looks it is hand stenciled?

What are your thoughts?

Do you mean hand stamped?

Yep, that is what I mean. Not a factory VIN stamped apron.

LQQKS good to me. But that is just one man's opinion.

Yes the picture suggests that each letter and number was individually stamped not using a gang stamp or fixture. Wonder where the donor car went since it appears there was a fairly complete (down to the emission system and spare) 68 GT350 somewhere in the past. Of course the license plate is not IMHO original to the car given where and when the car was sold.

Would look for and at the passenger side VIN and the drivers side inner fender panel for more details as well as all the regular things that would need checking on a car one is considering purchasing

If someone left it as is and drove it bet you would be stopped all the time with people thinking they could get a Shelby real cheaply. That might get tiring after a while but if you like attention :)

Thank you guys,

I would be very hesitant in making an offer, without seeing a pic of the passenger side VIN.

If it is complete/legit then somewhere along the line the driver apron was replaced. Which happens.

I too wold like more info on the GT350 that all these pieces came from.  Must have been a total loss.

Well that would be one possibility. Of course at this point one would hope but a potential buyer would want to check out.

I suspect, motor and trans are from different cars.

Automatic trans would not have smog

That car used to be in Simi Valley - way back someone wrecked a 68 gt350 and put all the parts on that fastback unibody - it's made up of several different cars - cool driver..

ya, my state would not approve of a VIN stamping that looked like that. If there isn't a nicer factory stamping hidden under one of the fenders then I'd probably pass (and still would probably pass based on the visible one being in plain sight)

I like the car. If it were mine I would sell all the Shelby parts and restore it to what it started out as. Silver frost with black comfort weave interior - big block - AC - what's not to like?

I do not think the hand stamped VIN will pass at any DMV.

Love the potential as a big block Silver Frost fastback, but not the ongoing problem of registration, inspection, and explanation every time the hood is opened.

Owner said the he had offers from some bidders in Germany at $42K.   Possible BIN at $45k.

If I remember right both front aprons have been changed, the car is a mass of different parts but still very cool, whenever it showed up it would get a crowd around it because it looks like an out of the woodwork gt350 - whoever buys it needs to leave it alone and drive it as is...

P.S. you can't ship the car overseas with re-stamped vins ....

The current seller is a bit of a regular flipper on Facebook.  He buys them, always asks "what should I do with it...hmmm maybe I'll bring it back to original" and the next days it's up for sale.

Interesting - I hope the high bidder is aware that this car has vin issues......
