Definitive test for brake fluid

I'd like to flush the braking system on 2249 just as preventive maintenance thing,  but I don't know what kind of brake fluid is in it now.
I pulled a bit out and put it on a painted piece of metal and after several hours, no paint was peeling  up.   This tells me it MIGHT be
silicone, so I'm just wondering,  is there a better litmus test for brake fluid or have I just done it?

In all probability, it is silicone.  Usually, DOT 3 brake fluid will do a number on paint in short order.  Does the brake fluid have a color tint?  Light purple? Yellow? Amber?  Any chance of checking with the previous owner or mechanic who worked on the car?

Stan, it's fairly clear, in color.    I can try to contact the previous owner/ shop.   That may be my best bet at this point.
Thanks!

if it washes off your finger with water, it isn't silicon

Thanks, I'll try that.   I also understand there's a difference in specific gravity.   I no longer own a battery tester with specific gravity
numbers on it but I'm going to look for one this weekend.
