Can anyone tell me what the Vin numbers looked like or started out with from the cars that unique performance completed?   I have a client that is hell-bent on getting one and I think he's getting caught up in smoke and mirrors on eBay with a car that is being claimed to be an original unique performance car but has a vin assigned from a specific state like a highway patrol vin

Steer him towards the one for $298,000.

They used whatever used and abused Mustang fastbacks they could buy to make these clones. Often combining parts of various unit bodies to make one complete unit body. That's one of the things they got in trouble with the police over.......

There is no pattern to what the VIN's were. The owners of Unique didn't care so long as a buyer was willing to pay.

He wants to see the tag. Theoretically you could prove you have a Unique Performance car, by looking at the tag.

Gee, if you have a clone of a clone is it still a clone?

Dont get distracted by the girl. She does find her shoes and figures out the corset.

I don't think they got an ID # other than whatever VIN the car they used had. A VIN assigned by a state just means that the car they started with had no VIN. Rust damage, crash damage, Dynacorn body etc. There is an Eleanor licensing group that also issues a tag but not a production number. Google eleanor tag and you'll find several variations. None specific to Unique. Is the state issued VIN from where Unique was shutdown? I remember there were several cars seized without VINs.

They did get another VIN. That was the issue

Its hard to find examples of Unique VIN tags because many were destroyed and reissued after the case was closed.

Most planned cars were never built

There was a forum member here that took it in the shorts for a substantial amount and never got a car.

I ended up with 3 of the cars 2 fastbacks and 1 supersnake convert.  and parts from the auction and parts.  I remember walking thru all the stuff and there was a cabinet with blank  vin tags very similar to 67 shelby tag.    The car my customer is looking at has a FLA. state assigned vin which i dont think is correct.  I is like  a slavage  car vin when you do a rebuildable car.  I thought a reme ber back that SAAC was recognizing them and putting a spot in the registry for them.

SAAC never tracked the cars or had them in a Registry.

They are not Shelbys. Unique used the "registry" claim as a sales technique. It was going to give the cars credibility in some people's minds. But, Shelby never had control over the SAAC information. Thats another story...

Most cars ended up with state issued VINs, because of the VIN fraud. Only a handful of cars went out the door before the investigations and before the destruction of the Unique VINs being issued.

The video shows an "original" tag
