Just nuts.

So, not one of the original 6, but a later conversion that Shelby commissioned McCluskey to build?

I don't think John Morton was ever allowed to race a coupe when he was under Shelby's employ.

Essentially the frame from a car, CSX2469, that had burned and was reconstructed to Daytona Coupe configuration by Mike McCluskey for Paul Andrews. Purchased by Shelby to race in the 1999 season. Then sold to the next owner in 2003.

Does it still have the 363cid "289" engine John Morton joked about using in the "vintage" races?

98SVT - was 06GT

He personally owned Coupe CSX2300. This Coupe title says Carroll Shelby Enterprises not him personally. The title is odd. He never had an address in Portland OR. Why would the new owner add CSE and their address to his title? Wouldn't he have a copy of an original title showing CS or CSE? Of course it's likely it had never been titled in CA. The FIA paper work is just something that vintage racing in Europe requires. Basically you could take any car and rebuild it to an original FIA spec and then apply for current FIA Vintage Racing paperwork (they are concerned more with the look and spirit of the cars rather than actual historical cars. If they have 1 slot and 2 cars apply the historic one will get picked. If there is only a replica for the slot it gets in. Does anyone believe that pack of 20-30 Cobras at Goodwood each year were all raced back in the day?

Not exactly. When a knowledgeable shop builds a Daytona Coupe from a crashed roadster, they generally only use the VIN, and a brand new chassis is built up with the triangulation and stiffening a coupe requires. Which means the discarded original roadster chassis is often reused in the restoration of another car, and it gets renumbered in the process.

Now the question is which air car did 2469 become???
