I have a 2007 GT 500 and recently a noise occurs when changing the heater / AC controls. Sounds like a clicking noise behind the radio. I'm speculating that it could be a gear driven control for the heater / AC ducts. Has anyone experienced this and is it a difficult and or expensive repair? Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like probably one of the door actuator motors. Fairly common failure. Depends on witch one it is on the cost. The defrost door, blend door and recirculation door actuators ( 3 separate actuators ) are accessed through the glove box opening ( .4 hour labor ea. ). To replace the floor mode door actuator requires removing the instrument panel ( 4.7 hour labor ). Motorcraft/Ford  actuators are around $ 60.00-70.00 each, other brands are less expensive.

Man, they must have had a bad design or bad supplier. FGT's have the same problem.

The real problem is the disassembly and reassembly of the dash.

Rodney,

Thanks for the heads up on the motor actuators. My luck it will be the one that the dash needs removed! I'll live with it for now if it is that one that requires dash removal.

Have you ever come across my old yellow 70 Mach 1 in the Youngstown / Canton area? Still looking for OF05M163764. Easily recognized as it is a 351-C with factory big block shock tower reinforcing.

Thank you.

You can drop the glove box easily to get at 3 of the actuators that are easy to get at. Operate the HVAC system and feel and or listen to those 3. You should be able to identify the problem one or eliminate them. No I have not come across your old car.

Ford is not the only one with this problem. Plastic gears in the actuators.
