hubcap repairs

How difficult/expensive is it to repair dents and scuffs on hubcaps? Does it require a skilled person and tools? There is a set on ebay that is local to me. Just curious how much effort is required and is it worth it to mess with them or just purchase ones in good condition. thx

As an experiment I attempted to repair the edge of one of mine that I was confident I could repair ....WRONG! Sure,I made it "better",but not useable in my opinion. It now is a wall deco in my shop. There is not much "meat" at the outer edge to work with. I have repaired other stainless moldings and thought this would be same
Save yourself some money and grief and wait for the best deal on NICE wheelcovers.

Keep in mind that the outer stainless portion is shared by other 15 inch hubcaps so you are not limited on that part in finding a suitable replacement to use. Not that the right dish is readily available out there from other applications but still are out there and allows you to widen your net beyond Shelby only hubcaps.  The inner section is another story unfortunately . The center section is pretty much Shelby unique or if there is another application it is equally obscure. The center section can be removed by a few screws and made to look better with repainting or what not but they are a waste of time and money to try and have rechromed if you have high expectations IMO.  You don't want to waste too much time trying to fix the centers once they start to get pits that bubble up from under the surface. A lot depends on what your expectations are. For example a nice driver car hubcaps don't have to look NOS.

One example are the ones that  have Ford marked in the center and are concave instead of protruding like the Shelby version. They look so much like the Shelby hubcap that they are typically confused or portrayed as the Shelby hubcap ether by the uninformed or by malicious intent to misled the uninformed.
