Hood scoop rivets?

Were the hood scoops for the 65 R models riveted to the hood?

If so, what size/type of rivets & how many were used?

If not, maybe it's the Cobra hood scoops I was thinking of.
Can someone please confirm?

You must be thinking about some of the Cobra hoods. The race model GT350 hood scoops were molded into the hood just like the street model.

So I guess I'll try to replicate the rivets on the Cobra hood scoops.
I only found 427s with riveted the scoop. Is that true or is it just more common on the 3000s?

The gallery pics I saw indicate the # of rivets vary anywhere from 31-35 and are round top.

Is there anything that documents the #, size and type of rivets?

Which one are you working on a GT350 hood or a 427 hood? Are you trying to attach a scoop to a regular Mustang hood ?

It's a 66 GT fastback I've owned for 30+ yrs with an OEM steel hood & a new steel GT350 style scoop.

I'm refreshing it by putting in a fresh HiPo 289 (OK, a Mexican block w/Boss internals) & hybrid GT(trumpets)/R-model (side exit) exhaust system.

It will have a port-hole opening below a functional hood scoop riveted on by an aircraft mechanic....

I want it to have an old-school look that is all business... So, flat or round rivets? Alum or Monel, every 1.5" (aircraft standard) or just every 2" (or so ?) since I won't likely be flying it...

Hopefully, Mr Shelby will be smiling on my endeavor.

Need your help to have the proper effect.

I guess just use what ever Rivets your Aircraft Guy thinks is best since the 1965 to 1970 Shelby Mustangs never had a Riveted on Hood Scoop.

   Phil ,
      The steel hoods and scoops were spot welded and leaded . None of the scoops were pop riveted except on the Cobras as Bob pointed out. Since there isn't a "right way" you can do what you want.

I'll use what he recommends but was hoping for some guidance at least in terms of style, appearance, etc so it'd at least appear to be period correct.

I understand this is not correct.
I just want it to be functional & hint at its understated performance.

Then use the round head so you don't snag was rags and fingers on them.
