Drove my car home first time with headlights on, after about 5 minutes my instrument lights went out and back on several times, then my headlights were going off and on, parking lights and tail lights not affected.
Any suggestions, has new battery and voltage regulator

Thanks, George

That happened to me and I replaced the headlight switch and it fixed everything.

Yup, headlight switch. Crazy but true!
Should be an "EZ fix"

This happens a lot if you installed Halogen bulbs. The circuit breaker for the system is built into the headlamp switch. Halogen bulbs are right there at the max current the switch and wiring can take. Often this results in darkness while driving.

If you have standard conventional sealed beams then it might just be a bad switch.

If you have halogen headlamps, try replacing the incandescent bulbs with LEDs to reduce the load.
