WTB - '67 GT500 / 4spd / Air

Looking for a '67 GT500 with 4 speed and air - early serial with lemans stripe if possible.  Thanks in advance!

If my records are correct, the earliest GT500 - 4 speed with air conditioning car is 463 a factory engineering car.

#0463 is the '67 that was used in the A/C testing along with the Super Snake #0544. It later became the '68 styling prototype and is currently in that configuration.

A/C cars were really not produced in early production. That includes both GT350s and GT500s.

They seem to have started going down the San Jose assembly line in May '67 with Shelby American completion dates starting in June.
I'm sure that is not the news you wanted to hear, but it will explain why you are having trouble finding an early one.

The next GT500 4 speed with air conditioning I show is #1869.

I do not show #808 as having air conditioning, am I missing something here?

Thanks for the info!  My comment about the early serial was really more about the center set lights than anything (thought I read somewhere that it was more likely to be configured that way - might be wrong there).  I probably should have said that instead...

Would also be interested in a '68 GT500 convertible with 4 spd & air...

If you want a meticulously restored car...this car is exactly that. Not mine but did help judge it at SAAC Indy and it is really a nice car.

Hi Chip,

I think you will have a tough time finding a "factory" built '67 4spd A/C car with the inboards grille lights.

Many late build '67 owners have changed the grille from outboards to inboards, so those altered cars are definitely out there.
I don't know if your aware, but the lemans stripes were not a really a factory option (only a handful, if any, were ever built that way).
The lemans stripe are typically owner added. (Note; they are frowned upon in SAAC or MCA judging unless you have factory documentation to prove it)

As you see with the posted car in Vern's link above, the outboard grille lights are typical for an A/C equipped GT500.

Finding a '68 GT500 with A/C and a 4spd is another challenge itself, but those are options more likely to be found.

Yes, that right...I just looked at my notes and Dave did advise me on that car as well...Auto no A/C
(only 2 cars in that DSO both with different packages. One had to be wrong)

#1869 is most likely another pkg error. It too should be a 410F car looking at the DSO.

I agree . I have judged it several times now in concours venues. You couldn't find a nicer 67 4 speed with air. Extremely well done.

I'm not sure if my aspirations are inline with reality, but if I'm trying to find something that I could drive on the weekends with the family, is 175k +/- a good budget assuming I'm not looking for a high end restoration?

I would think a project car needing restoration would be about the budget you have.  Im not sure how rare 4 speed air cars are exactly but Im guessing less than 50.   

and no cars came with top stripes except the prototypes other than dealer installed that Ive seen

I thought it would be higher, but only came up with about 42 of the '67 GT500s with 4spd & A/C.
