The owner said it was special order paint.  He added silver stripes, giving the nod to the 2013 Boss 302 Laguna Secas.

Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

A friend had a black one he had put white stripes on. He hand cut them out of 3M reflective material they used for freeway signs.

I'd never seen a 1970 in black before.  They look great in black.  1969 Boss 302 is my all time favorite.  Something about the four headlights makes it more shark like.  I'd take one sans louvers please.  Hard to find though I saw a blue one sell on Bring a Trailer for something like $61,500 earlier this year.  That was very well bought in my opinion.
Just found the link here.

I remember black '70s but have never seen a black '69.

Smokey Yunick's '69 Boss 302 Trans-Am car was black with gold, those were his colours, I doubt it was the factory paint, it

probably arrived  at Kar Kraft as a body in white ?

Here's the invoice for the car.

Both years look fantastic in black.  A special order colour from the factory I take it.

I'm not necessarily partial to black but I've often felt that almost every car looks best in black.

It certainly changes it's character.

I agree. Almost painted  my 70 GT350 vert black but it was never a production order for one(Tony King's pre production vert is the only black one) so kept it red. I loved my 68 in black and added red stripes. Never understood why Ford never offered a RED stripe on the Shelby as Ford offered red in every year(65-70) on black Mustangs. Gary
