69 shifter handle

Need some input please. I understand that there are reproductions A/T 69 shifter handles out there.  I have two options (pictures attached) and need to know if either is original, or which one you would use on a 69 500?  Thanks

The first pictured one is a repro or later service. The assemblyline versions have the wood cut out follow the contour of the snake more closely.

Yes and that is what it looks like with all of the wood grain effect worn off.

Lol, still not going to affect the functionality. Grab that knob and slam 2nd gear will feel like any other shift knob.

It was also used on the '67 -'68 Cougar XR7. That is probably where Shelby Automotive sourced it.

It was installed  on  deluxe Cougars  in 1969.

There are actually two knobs used 1967-69 on Cougar XR-7's. They look the same, but the later version (mid / late 1968) has a groove around the barrel/fat part of the knob. Early versions do not have the groove at all. Very prone to wear, mint versions very seldom seen.

Chris from Legendary motor car educated me on 68-69  4 speed shift knobs about 15 years ago. He had about 30 knobs(NOS?) from all iterations. He once showed me an early 68 Deluxe blue stripe knob with no ring around it. Then a ring(flat 3s) then into the 69 iterations(round 3s). Was it very early that the ring disappeared on the deluxe Cougar knob(assume the standard Cougars got the black knob like a Mustang?)?

Black knob on Standard model (non-XR7) Cougar with manual transmission. Faux woodgrain on the XR-7's with stick shift transmissions. They came 3 and 4 speed in the wood grain. The wood grain 4 speed version with the groove I think has a C8WY... part number.

Agree a cool look. So no one reading gets the wrong idea the 69 Mustang/Shelby shift lever does not have a reverse lock out cross bar . 65-67 Mustang /Shelby does .

Yes but you need to consider others reading who my be confused by posting a picture of a 67 shifter without giving it context as it relates to this 69 thread . No harm done but I thought it would be helpful to provide a explanation that's all.
