Should they be black, aluminum or body color?
The taillight boxes are black and the tail light housing is bare diecast/aluminium. The cut out Mustang tail panel sheet metal  will be body color on the outside and the same as the surrounding trunk on the inside. SA did not treat or touch up the cut edges of the sheet metal after the opening was cut out of the Mustang tail panel.

Are you asking about the rivets that attach the fiberglass tail panel to the body of the car on a later version that has the top lip riveted to the body??

If so, I believe they are/were typically black.

If asking about rivets then black like in the NPD picture is correct. Rivets on restored cars are commonly replaced by mistake with the more readily available and seen bare aluminum versions of the rivet.

As noted by the poster on the Concours site this car was built by Ford in SJ on  1/26/1967 and finished by SAI in 2/16/1967.

I would have thought that this car would have the flat panel taillight without the rivets and metal foldover.
