On an automatic what is the finish on the housing, top plate that screws into the housing and the lever that the shift handle attaches to in the pics below? The lever the threaed portion to the bushing I believe is clear zinc by looking at it or cad but what about the outer part that is welded to it and is outside the shifter housing and seeing the elements? Thanks. Gary

The top plate was usually just natural steel.  The bottom piece was a slightly darkened appearance, which I would replicate with a quick phosphate dunk, maybe 30-60s.

Thanks Charles. What about the shifter lever? On the threaded part that stays inside of the housing body is definitely plated(clear zinc or cad?) but the outside part it is welded to none that I have had in the past appear plated like that. Was that a quick phosphate dip also?
