I am thinking (trying to put a positive spin on it???) that maybe the rear end was damaged back in the day and repaired with what they got from the local Ford warehouse? Thanks for making me feel like I noticed something interesting. I figure it hurt the sale price.

QuoteI looked at the last GT500KR that sold Friday night. It had the early rear quarter panels with the recessed rear reflectors. Is that possible on a KR?

Never

Seriously you're changing quarters on an expensive car and you didn't notice that?

Does anyone know why the white gold stripe 66 Hertz was a no sale at $150k?

I looked it over looked nice but I'm no expert and the added Paxton setup was nice

Poor Ron said: Registry has a note about repairs to quarter panels due to transportation damage.. So I'd expect if no shenanigans going on all the other sheet metal like the inner structure metal would pre date the actual KR build consistent with other cars built that day. If that was true I'm at a loss why those "early" quarters were not modified during resto unless the SAAC registry was considered proof enough for early quarters on this car?

Sorry, damage during NEW car shipping was taken serious, even on a 4 door Falcon. Small parts, like moldings, etc could be replaced. Damage that would require REPLACING 1/4 panels ,out of the realm of possibility. The FIRST statement made about that is where the lies began. Picture damage to rear of 68 Shelby that would require REPLACING 1/4 panels.....fiberglass parts? Not a scratch/ding! More likely the info supplied for registry was distorted to hide the real reason. Auctions are the SECOND oldest profession. Do your inspections BEFORE you bid/buy.
As the values increase, the crooks will come out of the woodwork.

Who was that guy behind Eddie M bidding on that car? Holy smokes, I didn't know human beings could be so damn handsome  ;D

Kind regards,

We did end up getting the car although the TV coverage went to commercial too early to tell at home.

R002 is going to the home of someone who cares deeply for the car's history. It'll be in good company, too.

I could see one side but not both. A guy I knew(since the early 80s) was the original owner(think still is but moved to Az) of a black 69 351W Mach1. He ordered a maroon one when he started his internship with Ford in June of 1969(whole career as a Ford eng). The car came in and one quarter panel was damaged being taken off the transport and needed replacement so he rejected the car. Dealer couldn't find him another maroon car but found a black one. He said no. The dealership asked him to come see the car. He said once he saw it(claimed no orange peel in paint) he loved it and bought it. So my question now without the registry in front of me was that info from a former owner or Ford archives on the KR?

Buyers are paying more $ for cars coming out of collections (around 40 collections here). Something is wrong with this market when a tour bus sells for more than SJ dragonsnake cobra. The only bus here that should have sold for over a mil was the yellow specialed short bus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spoke with the owner of the white '66 Hertz car that didn't sell. Looked the car over pretty well too. It was a nice driver with a new reproduction Paxton setup installed. It had worn Radial TA tires that dated more than 10 years ago. Sort of an odd color combination with the white exterior / gold stripes.

My take on it was the Paxton was adding nothing to the car's desirability. It would have done better with a newer, more correct set of tires and some proper detailing of the underside and exhaust system.
