What an insane bid for a car that's been totaled. Fenders, 1/4's and floors to start with. That's ok for a race car but would scare away your average buyer of a vehicle like this one.
I can only imagine how bad the car was given the heavy rust pitting on the rear axle.
I actually had a 68 Shelby that was extremely solid that had a heavily pitted rear end(whole car media blasted and a painted shell when I bought it) that sat from the mid 70s until my friend had it blasted around 1990 here in Mi.

I talked to the high bidder by phone the other day. He asked me a price after I pointed out many concerns I had about the car-went over it picture by picture on the concerns. I hate price giving because there are so many unknowns. I told him if he could get the car titled clear in his state he probably wouldn't be hurt at "X" price but told him he should talk to Pete about a few concerns I had FIRST. Well the bidding went much much higher. Hopefully he will find a better car for his final bid price.

C'mon.  This was not an insane bid, it was more then likely just a case of shill bidding.  The seller lists his car for $99 with a $180k reserve and has his buddy bid it up to $179k hoping that a fish will bid $180k on it.  Unfortunately there is no fish out there so the car doesn't sell and it only cost $99 bucks to list it.   The $179k "bidder" doesn't need to follow through and in the end, he isn't out one cent.  Gimme a break.  It happens all the time at Mecum and other auction sites out there.

was NOT shill bidding on the highest bidder's bidding. Can another bid someone up to a reserve price knowing that price? It happens for sure. I'm not saying here but it has happened.

OK here are some of my concerns: SEE pic 1 and "6". Uneven door gap at top and rubbing on bottom at Fender. At quarter uneven gaps. Seems original metal cars don't have that problem? Experts?

Now the pass side. Should the gap on one side fender but about what you would expect on the other side top to bottom if door to quarter are relatively the same? Pass side: look at the large gap at bottom-appears to be close but larger than top. Driver's side has a good gap at top but rubs at the bottom.

Last Pic: no straight on shots of the drivers fender/door area full. Best one below. The who alignment and varying gaps scare me. My car didn't have them with virgin metal neither did a few more I looked at from pics in auctions.

I can see some seller (not this seller) say this about the door gaps: "Oh, it's just the door hinges needing proper alignment. It's an easy fix."

OK, I spoke in error.   I guess I've become a bit jaded due to all the crazy stuff that I've watched happen in auctions. $179k no sale on this car seems like strong money for this car.

I normally hear "Ford just slapped them together and used whatever parts they could find"
