Radiator Restoration

My radiator is in need of restoration. I contacted Valley Radiator in Green Bay a few weeks ago to get a quote but I can't get in touch with them now.

My radiator is in need of a re-core badly. Capacity is way down due to a lot of blockage and the car runs pretty hot.

My car isn't a show car so should I just replace it with an aftermarket radiator for now? Does anybody have a link for one that will work? There's a lot of options out there so I'm needing some guidance.

I would just find another radiator shop near you.
I know they are falling "by the way side," but there must be one within 50 miles.

There used to be several in every city of 50,000 or more people and that's not true anymore but any decent shop should be able to do it,

Do you plan to drive the car this spring and summer?  Virginia Mustang sells a nice OEM looking radiator for near $190.  See:

Then you can send your period correct radiator off for rebuild and not be in a hurry for a nicer rebuild.  A lot of these 50+ year old radiators needs some TLC before rebuilding.  The tanks can be less than perfect and need to be straighten out some.

I found a replacement radiator at Advance Auto Parts, with a on line coupon it was $88, got it the day after Christmas after discovering a small leak in the original radiator. They had it in stock

I had my original radiator redone for my XR7-G with the S code 390 4v.

There are at least two radiator shops left here in Richmond Va.

Cost me $443.55 to have it recored. Their painting job was just ok. You may want to paint it yourself.

Put it back int he Cougar and it developed a couple of pinhole leeks in the upper tank so took it back and they fixed those no charge.

I've put about a thousand miles on it and it seems fine now.

I contacted Virginia Classic Mustang and they gave me a few recommendations. They said the 2-row aluminum would be the best for cooling. I also found a Spectra radiator on Amazon for $125.
