If you asked Ed Meyer he would say " that's just the way it is"  ;D

I would make an educated guess it has to with cost and possibly suspension.

Could early small suspension with E/70/15 associated with 7.35 SS ?

I believe there was only the 7.35 for 1969/70 Shelbys.

Thats why cost probably was a factor

The 1969 BOSS 302's received a 7.35x14 space saver spare, the 1970 BOSS 302 received a F70x14 space saver spare. The 1971 BOSS 351 also received the F70x14 space saver spare. The 1969 BOSS 429 received a 7.74x14 space saver spare and the 1970 BOSS 429 received the F70x14 space saver spare. I would think the weight of the car was the reason the 1969 BOSS 429 received the larger 7.75x14 tire.

+1. This explanation has always been my belief because it seems to be the most logical. If you have ever seen a Boss 429 on a engine stand next to a 428 CJ on a engine stand the Boss 429 is dramatically larger by comparison.
