70 Radio Bezel

My 70 GT500 came with an aftermarket radio. It originally had an am/8 track. I found a D1ZA 19A242 am/8 track which I think should be correct.  The car also came with a new radio bezel still in the bag. Here's my problem: the radio opening in the bezel is 4"w x 2"h, but the part of the radio that should slide into that opening is 4.5"w x 2.75"h. What am I missing? Does the am/8 track require a different bezel?

Why would a D1ZA radio be "correct" for your car or application. The same bezel was used for all radio applications in 69 and 70 so the issue is the wrong radio not the wrong bezel if you have an unmodified original radio bezel. Sorry don't have a bezel handy to measure.

+1 . Your 1971 (D1ZA) radio will not fit in the 69/70 radio bezel .

I was thinking that it was the 19A242 that was important. The only difference in part numbers is the 0 vs the 1. D0ZA 19A242 vs D1ZA 19A242. So, looks like a D1ZA 19A242 is just bigger? Anyone know of a D0ZA 19A242 for sale?

The 19A242 just identifies the part as a radio. Al the other stuff identifies year and model it was originally designed for and variation identifiers

Believe you would be best served finding a 69 radio even though your car is titled as a 1970.

In case you are not aware your 1970 Shelby is a 1969 production car that has had the Ford VIN edited . All of the Regular Mustang parts on the car are 1969 model year.

No. The prefix "D" stands for the decade which is 1970's .The prefix "C" stands for the 60's in the part number or engineering number . C9ZA-19A242-B  which is for a 1969 model car is what you are looking for.

A 1970 radio would fit but it's writen mustang on the tape trap which is inacurate.
