Hope everyone is having a good year so far, I recently obtained a 65 K code mustang with the original door tag. The build date for the car is 26P...Was this a misstamp? I have never seen a P before on the build date.

The 1964/65 production year was started early because of the early release of the Mustang.

I think "C" is probably the first build of 1965 cars for March 1964. (March 1965 being the second build in March of 1965 / code "P")

Just checked Kevin Martis book, for some reason "P" was skipped and March of 1965 would be a ""Q"

Doesnt look like P was used

A picture would be helpful

Terrible picture but from what I can see it looks to be a reproduction tag.

Here you go.....pretty sure tag is original..maybe someone can touch base on this

Looks like you have a reproduction door tag that was made by someone without the right sided fonts and didn't understand the codes Ford used during that production period. Unfortunately this will make you suspect what else they changed in the way of information and codes on the tag when they purchased they had it made.  Here are a few in the later part of production at Dearborn for model your 65 to compare. Prettty easy to see the difference in the stamping and in the design of the basic door/warranty tag printing

Yours is the top one in all three of the comparisons below

Sorry, Im suspect of all pre 1967 performance cars that have been restored.

As you should be. I think there are way more 4 speed K code convertibles now than there were built in 1965. I would be looking at the VIN stamps on that one.
