69 gt350 rearend vent

hey I'm looking for pictures and measurements on the location of rear end vent, The 1969 gt350, I'm restoring didn't have rear end, I picked one up but was told it was from a big block car and they were different from small block??? so I need location of vent if this is true so I can relocate it. thanks Jeremy

BB 69/70 housings had 2 holes not one. They are hard to find.  If it has one then you are good to go for the 69 GT350.

Hope these help. No measurements but at least the pictures show other "landmarks" you can use to compare the location of the vent hole to. Just a few inches from the center to the tube weld on the drivers side. Brake line strap was left off at the time when the lower right picture was taken for those looking at other details

BB 69/70 housings had 2 holes not one. They are hard to find.  If it has one then you are good to go for the 69 GT350.

My guess is that saves money since it minimized the number of parts compared to the big block applications with the two holes and they didn't have to drill and thread a second hole.

I always thought it was for staggered shock cars and the different placement of the staggered shock. I'd have to further into my 2 cars as I have both factory rears in my GT350 vert and my 4 speed staggered shock drag pack Mach1.

Mine is automatique BB car with factory rear end and it have 2 holes.So no staggered. I have thought the reason was bigger exhaust but in a previous discussion others mention that it is same size a this section of the exhaust system...

The only thing I have seen different is the shock location so vent tube moved. Now IIRC the last BB 4 speed car I did had a separate hole (see second pic). Like I said I have both types of cars in my garage and just need to look at my 428 car better. Here is the factory setup on my 351W Gt350 I took about 24 years ago during resto. I do recall putting 2 green location stripes on rear ends before. Second pic is a staggered shock correct car(Bob Perkins B9)

Can't figure out on commonality on all of this other than the shock. Why should a BB auto with the same rear and shock arrangement as a SB car have a moved vent hole?

Gary it might be the answer is just above our pay grade. It may be as simple as for less confusion when assembling the sub assembly that have nodular rear,31 spline axles etc. used in BB Mustang compared to a 69/70 SB. As spec Ed likes to say "that's just the way it is".
