So you want to clean up your exhaust manifolds.  Well how do you go about doing this ?

This is what I did.  Read my old MOTORS Auto Repair Manual :

Option # 1 Remove head and exhaust manifold together.

Option # 2 Remove engine from vehicle

No !

What we did :

Remove upper and lower hoses
Loosen fan belt
Remove fan
Remove fan shroud
Remove radiator
Release both exhaust pipes
Drop idler arm
Remove starter
Unbolt transmission mount
Loosen both motor mounts
Remove motor mounts
Remove motor mount support/ bracket on block
Remove ignition wires
On driver side exhaust remove master cylinder
Raise motor with a hydraulic jack
Remove exhaust bolts
Remove exhaust manifolds
Replace exhaust manifolds

Now to clean and spiffy them up

The End

P. S. Beats taking motor out or taking heads / manifolds off per repair manual

Waste of time. Burn them off with a torch and put headers on it.

Sacrilage and contrair mon ami,  one does not remove the factory correct vintage performance exhaust manifolds off a 428 boat anchor.

See one needs those to be highly detailed so when you pull your trailer into the local "cars and cafe" , unload your concourse beauty, open that hood,  every one can bask in the splendor of your efforts spent on the detail and polish on these exhaust gas scavenging devices.

Details,  the devil is in the details ... most impressive !

Do they let you sit in the car as it is being trailered around? Do they let you make engine noises? Good deal. That's what it's all about.

HUH? Unlike my 351 where the manifolds are easily seen the 428s are mostly hidden. The splendor is when you pull into a cruise with Hooker super comps and a free flowing loud exhaust and a slight cam. That is where it is at-not factory manifolds and transverse muffler. Day 2 all the way  8) 8) 8)

What's more impressive than that ?

Rolling in with 428 badges,  roller cam spinning,  exhaust exiting through flow masters done ala Boss 302 exhaust but exiting through the center rear shelby valance.

That's how it's done, thumpity thump !

Now thats a great question you pose, and thanks for asking

Although the thought did go through my head, answer is definitely a big NO.

Why buy a problem when you can purchase a nice running 1969 GT500 for right around $150,000

Not concourses, but nice solid car.

I guess you haven't seen my other post:

The insurance company has offered us first dibs on repurchasing the fire damaged vehicle.

We thought about it, at $100k +/- plus repairs $150/200 (we would be giving them back the payout), waiting for it to be repaired ( 1 to 2 years), a salvage title and it will always have diminished value, it was a NO.

A few people have suggested that I should buy the salvage vehicle back.

Then cleanse the title through several processes they recommended.

I am not saying the new owner will do this but everyone I have spoken to thinks they will.

Then miraculously BLUE SHELBY will be appearing as a untouched ( hey just like JIMMIES 67 ) virgin with "clean paper work"

Unfortunately "we people" don't do that.

That is why we are documenting its demise on our S. A. A. C. forum for all to witness and to hopefully warn others who may purchase this vehicle in the future.

I think that is the right thing to do.
