Topic heading has wrong VIN - the car is #2704 not 3704 and is an automatic.

I looked at it in March of 2019. Car was redone years ago, paint and finishes are production body shop quality with minimal detail. Original door warranty label is missing.

Underneath has been reworked, has incorrect '65-'68 style repro floor pans. Bottom is heavily undercoated. Taillight panel is reproduction.

Had been stored for years and presented a generally shabby appearance when I saw it. Did not hear it run.

Here are the photos Mecum won't show you.
Same thing done to the Grabber Green 1970 MIS pace car. I tried talking my friend into doing it the right way but he chose the same route as this car. You can still see it that way from the early 90s as it sold on BaT recently. Back then those with cars like this many didn't think to spend a lot more money to do it right as they didn't cost what they do today done. Other than blacking out the drop down these are the same quarters and it has pieced in floor pans I believe on the pace car because full floor pans didn't exist back then.

anyone know how many 69-70 GT500 SCJ 4 speed convertibles made?

I've had 5-6 SCJ Convertibles...

They made a total of about 45 cars...

69s and 70's...
Auto and 4 speeds..

They might have made about 13 1970 SCJ 4 speeds

I always thought the 428CJ site had good numbers. If they are then 21 69 3.91 gear cars and Ed's 4.30 geared car. 1970 21 3.91 geared cars. Total 43. I'm sure Ed has all the  breakdowns of all the cars. I suspect a few others do, too.

Bill-no doubt, your diligence probably saved someone a whole bunch of headaches and, needless to say, pesos.  Love this kind of honest follow up.

FWIW the car will still command big $$$ but I'd say a nice rust free donor 69 vert for correct parts are in order-or a coupe with a top notch person who can but weld.

3  70 coral drag pack verts made 2 4-speeds and this auto and yes i have tracked these drag pack verts for last 35 years and know where most of them are and they mostly changed hands privately and wonder why they didnt take this  rare car to  the big mecum florida january auction instead of  small KS auction this late only 2 weeks away?

A very nice appearance from 10 feet away. Upper quality driver category car.  Compromises in just about every aspect of restoration compared to a concours quality restoration. The car should still bring good money. The person who restored the car did not have a good enough knowledge of 69/70 Shelby's to put this one together. The one picture and the number of incorrect items and procedures in the picture relative to correct ones are representative of the same percentage of non assemblyline things that is found throughout the car . The car looks very striking in appearance "As Is" even with the issues I saw and others discussed already.Of course I have no idea how it runs and drives.

A good shot there, Bob, that does show a lot of things wrong in a small "window".

The seller and his son came up to me and introduced themselves thinking I was the high bidder . He was hoping that the car went to a enthusiast who would love the car like he did. With my Cobra team jacket on I must have looked the part. I told him I was with the buyer during the auction and he was the very excited about his purchase. I assured him the the new owner is a hard core 69/70 Shelby enthusiast  .
