Show us your 1969/1970 Shelby

Not until after the 2014 did we SAAC and I get any photos of Gold 1969 GT500 with gold door panels with power windows and Cougar gold seats supplied by SAAC member Bill to verify it did not have a Cougar dash as reported in previous Registry. I do believe the car was delivered to first owner in that Gold configuration ! Mongo.

Additional information, car is a "one family" owned car, it also wears it's original paint, or so I have been told

I will check the original invoice and take some pictures when I get home tomorrow. According to the deluxe Marti report there were eight produced with the "Red Knit Vinyl Hi-Back Bucket Seats" of which 4 had the tilt-away steering wheel. Mine was built on 06/09/69.

There were 2 local in N. GA back in the day. I also know of another one currently in north east TN .

Mark, where is your post of your white car with the red interior. I've never seen a Shelby with a red interior. Do they have a name for this red, like they did with the white in calling it Parchment? This red interior was only available on the '69-'70 models?

The only description I can find is "3DA  Dark Red Clarion Knit/Corinthian Vinyl Hi-Back Bucket Seats". I also have a black console which looks to be original unlike the one in the previous post which is red?

Excuse the pictures since I have a good part of the interior out removing old upgrades like a Pioneer stereo etc.

Mark, thanks for the posts. I thought I was crazy, because I only saw black and Parchment listed as interiors for Shelbys. I KNEW I had seen somewhere that stated there was a red interior for the later Shelbys. I sure wish I had a Shelby to work on. My wife would never see me, unless she hung out in the garage! I would like to buy that project that Cape Cod has, but I can't afford to make monthly payments on a $40,000. car right now. Bummer.

The red was called Vermillion.

no, the RED was called RED( D code) as in it used a dark red interior on all 69-70 Shelbys. 1970 they switched to an orange interior they called vermillion(E code) and as you know 70 Shelbys are 69s.

My Dad was a safety engineer for A.O.Smith in Milwaukee.  The car he bought from the company in 1970 was one of two demos (the other a convert) and it was his daily driver for years.  Originally an automatic car, it now sports a 5 speed, 462" fuel injected engine, coil over front & rear suspension, near stock appearance inside & out, and is getting close to completion with the original Acapulco Blue color.

I recently had the opportunity to see this incredible car, and I can tell you, the engineering, workmanship and components are TOP NOTCH. His garage and workshops are first rate, and his attention to detail rivals the very best. He plans to have the car finished for this spring, and I cannot wait to see it outside, hear it going thru its paces, and get a ride!

Although I am a dyed-in-the-wool, old-school, stock originality Shelby enthusiast, I have much respect for a guy who applies this level of effort to his take on a modernized 1969 Shelby GT 500.

You have to admit, in our Shelby World, it takes "a set" to do something like this, doesn't it? And that's what makes it so darn cool - a man doing his OWN THING in what is a very rigid, structured environment for the rest of us.

Mind you, I'm very comfortable in the rigid, structured (Concours) environment that I choose to live in (that's my taste) but I think there's also those of us here who live vicariously thru guys like H.

SFM, I agree that these cars, because they are so rare and special, they really shouldn't be taken too far from stock. I don't think each one needs or must be concours (but I do have a serious appreciaton for the cars that are very correct), but I do not think they should have their original drivetrains permanently changed and factory roll bars being hacked out or the wheel wells flared, etc. I further stipulate, that if someone really needs to do that with a car, do not make it a Shelby. You don't see the Ferrari guys doing that with a '57 TR! Make damn good and sure, if you modify a Shelby, it can be easily converted back to at least good driver quality. We are stewards of these cars, just like the Japanese sword collectors regard their ownerships of their swords as stewardships. Next on the soapbox, step up.
