With all the talk of fires and disappearing vehicles I was recommended by a friend to put one of these on my car.  He is a just recently retired airline pilot having flown big birds so I trust his judgment having survived 30,000 hours of time up in the skies.  I will let y'all know how the install goes.

Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

I know a couple of people who have installed those. Good idea.

most excellent preferance, make sure it is adequately date coded for your choice vehicle

I would recommend the knife-blade style instead. The screw type can have a corrosion issue and may not make good contact.    https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Disconnect-Isolator-Negative-Vertical/dp/B07YTWJQF2/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=34LGZDUDR06RO&keywords=battery+cutoff&qid=1702321955&sprefix=battery+cutoff%2Caps%2C136&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1
I wonder if they sell a RH/LH variety of that?

Those have been available since at least the early 80's. They originally were advertised as a theft deterrent. You unscrewed the green knob and put it in your pocket so no one could start your car. Of course it can be easily bypassed . Later consciences supported it being used for log term storage where a slight draw of current from the car would keep the battery from being drained.  A added benefit is that during storage and with the disconnect used there is no chance of a electrical fire from a faulty circuit that is normally powered by the battery.  Yes as has been stated corrosion can build up and common sense maintenance is a given . The basic one pictured has drawbacks but  can be  easily cleaned and less obnoxious looking compared to the knife blade lever type . But that is just my opinion.

It won't prevent a fire, just delay it until you are driving your car!

Any car thief that can't get past that isn't going to have a very successful career.

I have been disconnecting the negative cable in using a rubber cap over the post for over 30 years.  No fires, no drained battery, no ugly add on.

I've been doing the same. Current repop Autolite 24F battery has been in the car since 2009 and still going strong.
