Description

This 1966 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350H is said to have been delivered new to Schwister Ford of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and underwent a cosmetic refurbishment before being purchased by the seller in 2017. The car is finished in black with gold stripes over black vinyl upholstery, and power comes from a replacement 289ci HiPo V8 that was rebuilt and over-bored by Ed Pink Racing Engines in 2020. Equipment includes a C4 three-speed automatic transmission, a four-barrel carburetor, power-assisted steering and front disc brakes, 17″ Shelby/American Racing wheels, a dual exhaust system, hood and bodyside scoops, driving lamps, a dash-mounted tachometer, a retro-style satellite radio, and latch-and-link front harnesses. This GT350H is offered with service records and a clean California title in the seller's name.

Approximately 1,000 GT350H examples were produced as part of a partnership between Ford and the Hertz car rental company. This example is finished in black with gold stripes and features a hood scoop, driving lamps, plexiglass rear quarter windows, fiberglass brake-cooling scoops on the quarter panels, and a chrome bullet-style side mirror.

The 17″ Halibrand-style Shelby/American Racing wheels feature faux three-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with 225/45 Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires. A chrome-finished 14″ Magnum 500-style wheel with a Goodyear Blue Streak bias-ply tire is stowed in the trunk. The car is equipped with power-assisted steering, and stopping power is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. Replacement rear wheel cylinders and axle seals were installed by Galpin Auto Sports of Van Nuys, California, in 2020.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a folding rear bench trimmed in black vinyl along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Features include a heater, front latch-and-link harnesses, black rubber Mustang-branded front floor mats, and rear lap belts. A replacement black headliner and a Ford-branded satellite radio with an auxiliary input were installed in 2020. A competition brake warning sticker is affixed to the center of the dash.

The three-spoke steering wheel wears a Cobra GT350 badge and frames a 140-mph speedometer flanked by gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and battery voltage. A Shelby-branded tach is mounted atop the dash. A replacement speedometer cable was installed in 2020. The five-digit odometer shows 6,300 miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under the seller's ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 289ci HiPo V8 was rebuilt and bored .030″ over in 2020. Equipment includes finned valve covers and a four-barrel carburetor mounted on a high-rise aluminum intake manifold as well as an export brace and a crossbar. Corrosion is visible on the chrome air cleaner.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a C4 three-speed automatic transmission.

Red flag - no Howard letter confirming Ford/SA serial number match. Why would this free and vital piece of paperwork not be mentioned. Not even a SAAC Registry comment.
I hate the 2005 6 cylinder Mustang wheels.

I love all the comments from the peanut gallery....especially what the owner should have done to the car.

Looked a lot better in 2016, even with correct Magnum 500 wheels and Goodyear Blue Streak tires.  It definitely has gone down hill and only traveling an extra 586 miles since then.

Oh, the Batters haven't learned the power of the Coralsnake yet. Even after I told them these stories were documented, they continued to say "myth and legend".

I don't know about the '68's but the (some or all???) '69's including my '69 #2060, were sold at Ford dealer auctions. Maybe Hertz also sold some.  :)

Depends on how the contract was written - they were manufacturer and model specific. Hertz sold cars and the contract could have required the manufacturer to take them back and then wholesale them to dealers - like a lease deal. They also had a max mileage limit on the cars.
