Right hand drive cobras

Spotted this one over the weekend at a car event in SoCal ,I've never seen a right hand drive cobra & looked nice in this color also.

It was actually more of a vintage Porsche event, but they're were also a couple nice Ferraris there

It's a 289 Sports. Built by AC in England after Cobra production ended. Ned Scudder has one. European collectibles is a big Porsche 356 dealer/restoration shop.

That's what I was thinking. I'v known Gerry since the mid 70's. Lived a few miles apart in the oakland hills. Met each other at Mostly Mustangs In Oakland.

It is COB 6113, and Gerry sold it about 2 years ago to the current owners. My car is just 2 chassis numbers away, but has one big difference: the COX in its VIN denotes left hand drive. And an update to the earlier note that these were "built after Cobra production ended:" The AC 289 was AC's response to the Shelby 427 Cobra, built for the consumer who did not need a big-block but wanted the improved coil spring chassis. They were built on the standard assembly line along with the CSX cars headed to Shelby. The first sale of an AC 289 was in the fall of '65, and the last was delivered in early '69.

Original AC Cobras w/ COB Build Codes
(COB6001–6062)

In 1963 to keep production focused on producing cars for Shelby American Inc., AC began to market and sell the Cobra in Europe. Advertisements from the time state that the Cobra was designed to meet the requirements of Shelby American Inc.

(COB 6101–6132)

AC Cars kept producing the coil-spring AC Roadster with narrow fenders and a small block Ford 289. It was built and sold in Europe until late 1969.

My neighbor up the street had a friend with a COB car. He converted it to LHD for the guy. I've got the original dash hanging on the garage wall.

The "AC 289 Sports" was named that to avoid confusion between it and the earlier leaf-spring cars that were still available when the latter was introduced. They are Cobras in every sense. And even though chassis numbers 6128-6132 exist, those were lengthened bare chassis built for use in a film for Paramount Studios that were not originally built as Cobras, even though most have been in the years since..
