Unread Post Distribution

I just opened the Unread Posts section of the forum as I normally do early in the morning. Of the 27 posts that popped up, 26 were from Florida announcing everything that happened or is about to happen in Florida. Only ONE real post. That's 96% nonsense and 4% of what I consider legitimate.

This is just an observation on my part.

Easy fix.
Go to your Profile.
Find the Ignore Board,
Find 'Florida' in the regional section and check the box.
While you are at it, go ahead and check 'Lounge' AKA 'Toe Knees Lounge' box too.

And this is the issue at hand. Why should all the members on this site have to block certain sub, forums or users and run the risk of missing something that they may find important to them. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Therein lies the problem... ALL members dont have to, nor do they want to block anyone or anything. It is like that dive bar on the lower south side of town, if you dont like what goes on there... SIMPLY STAY AWAY. Where is that we welcome all attitude, that this was built from?

Think this might be a little bit more like the obnoxious bum from that dive bar standing in your living room, screaming at the top of his lungs. You can ask him to leave. You can ask him to quiet down, but he continues to scream. What would you do?

Let me give you a few solutions:

1 do not open UNREAD POSTs we did once and only once. But immediately turned around and left

2 as someone previously mentioned it's a easy fix.

Go to your Profile.
Find the Ignore Board, and put in what you want to ignore and never ever see again

3 I just viewed that there is another post on improvement. I am going to suggest in that another some improvements to our forum

Like why show what one very active SAAC Region is doing

Well folks, I did implement the ignore option and I don't have to be subjected to reading the countless posts. My comment was simply that 96% of the unread posts that popped up were from one source. Having someone on the ignore list does NOT keep the posts from popping up in the Unread Posts category.

A possible reason why there is such a disproportionate ratio of junk mail verses valid/constructive mail is that those who USED to post constructive posts are leaving or holding back from posting on this forum. If I'm correct on this assumption it is truly a sad situation.

I think you have seen enough information today to draw a conclusion. Certainly the knowledgeable members are as frustrated as you and I. The most common thing I hear is "what's the point?"

Since the crash of forum 1.0 and Toni's effort to be the "junk post count king" this site has gone down hill.

Maybe Ron will step up after supper and keep his word. It will only become evident if we see no posts from Fl for a month starting tomorrow.

Personally, when I get on any forum, not just this one, I always "Show posts since my last visit".  Once I'm done browsing, I click on the "mark them all Read".  Then on my next visit (later in the day or the next), I only see what is new. 

You still see the post of the people you have on Ignore.  If you notice one that might interest you, or they posted in the For Sale, a simple click on the hot link that is presented and you are reading the post.
