Looking at the details of original photos from Peter's page it appears the only consistent coloring is in the latch area as noted above. Otherwise (forward of the radiator support) it seems to be some bright silver hardware some not. I have a 350 so ill follow this photo showing bright silver (horn, etc.)

Horn bolts are more commonly phosphated. They have a special serrated washer

Thanks. other than the horn bolts does my logic of using the picture seem sensible to you?

A better option would be get the Shelby Assembly manual and use the bolt part numbers as a guide

Apparently.... I thought some of you experts knew off the top of your heads. in this very thread, you can see inconsistent understanding of the proper finishes. I imagine others could benefit from this dialog.

Coralsnake

I can assure you I am familiar with the finishes and head designs.

i do not. I could not find an "assembly manual" for sale online either. Is this parts manual one in same or at least close enough? thank you i will buy it if so.

That booklet shows the Shelby unique parts

I think there six different 1968 books, you should have these as well. They cover the Mustang parts

Just as important as the 68 assemblyline manuals is the companion book AMK guide to fasteners which decodes the numbers in the assemblyline manual for the individual fasteners with a full size picture of the bolt or screw plus shows you how to identify the finish. https://www.npdlink.com/product/book-amk-guide-to-ford-fasteners/138107?

wow...thanks for this. Does the judging community care about reproduction hardware vs. original?
