I crewed on 5R001 when Larry Zane owned it. When it popped the engine at Monterey we discovered the "restorer" had used grade 5 hardware store nuts on the rods. His excuse was I thought it was going to sit in a collection.
After we put a fresh engine in I was cleaning the wheels and found 2 were cracked around the spokes. One had 3 spokes cracked where they met the rim. Larry had bought another spare engine from Randy Gillis and it sat in my garage for years.
