saw this on a 68 gt350 today 80s rebuilt non matching motor.  Matching motor was in the garage but had a cast iron intake sitting on top, not installed.  I did not see cobra or shelby on the intake but it looks right otherwise.   Carb is that for 65-67 gt350s?  it has the replacement sticker on it.

Almost all 1968 Shelby GT350s originally came with the cast iron intake

The Cobra aluminum intake and Holley carb for the '68 GT350 were not approved for production until May 15, 1968.

Look at the build dates for the '68 GT350. Most were already built by then.

Then you have a recall notice sent out to install them by Ford. Read the motice. It authorizes the intake but not the Holley carb and says to reinstall the Ford carb.

Apparently on recall installations, deakers used either what they had in stock for intakes which could have been the S2MS intake or the S7MS. It is unclear what intake Ford Service parts would deliver though.

The earliest of the S8MS Holleys seem to be from March '68 but there are those that are showing 1969 dates. So I would presume those are service carbs?

As Coralsnake states, original factory installed Cobra intakes are not common, as are the Holley carbs.

Compared to the other years of GT350's, the '68s are the most confusing to everyone.

Back in early 80s i bought a 68 gt350 4-speed after i sold my 67 gt350 and the 68 had a cobra aluminum intake installed  with the ford holley and a cast iron 4v intake  and ford carb was in the trunk yet. One cold morning my maverick wouldnt start so i took my shelby deer hunting and i was driving on a rock road when around a corner a pick-up truck was driving on my side of the rock road and when he seen me coming turned to quick and he slid on the loose rocks and hit my front lh corner and the fiberglass flew everywhere in pieces. Well his insurance company couldnt find the fiberglass parts to repair (this was before ford swap meets were even around yet) so his insurance company gave me some money and we repaired the fiberglass nose and fixed the front end and after that i sold the car after i bought my first boss 429 then a 70 gt500 convertible then a KR and on and on. I had the most fun driving the 68 gt350 4-speed as it handled very well and i won many races the good ole days for sure.

The carb in the picture is a replacement /reissue carb from Holley of the type used on 65-67 GT350. The date code stamping and other reissue components not the least of which is the Lemans bowls identify it as such.

Most confusing at least in regards to the carb intake situation. My 2cents.

Thanks guys!  so probably original intake, cant beleive i missed the shelby lettering on the intake, and incorrect but period nice rare carb.

Special Ed liked your story and thats cool you liked the lowly 68 gt350 so much compared to the other cars.  was the 67 a four speed as well?

A 67 white gt350  automatic as thats why i sold it. I bought it for $1700.00 out of a newspaper add in a local town and drove it home parked it in our family farm chicken house until someone offered me $3000.00 then i sold it and took the money and bought a 68 dark moss green gt 350 4-speed the same day in ohio and drove it home. Back in 79 80 era i was buying fastbacks for $ 100 to $300 out in the sticks and barnyards fields etc as that was the good ole days when u could buy cars for pocket change and now u gotta rob a bank . Yes. I meant on the GT350 intake and carbs as to what is original or accepted as original.

Typically most GT 350's in 1968 had the stock cast iron intake and Autolite carburetor. A few after the date cited would have an aluminum intake and a Holley but not many.
