Good question!  As far as rarity, they were produced in similar numbers.... Maybe they should be priced in the same range???

Few Cobra were bided less than that ...
6s...Carry over sold 418 000 it confirm the special desirable valuable  satus of those 252 cars.

I looked over that carryover car.  Someone had popped the VIN plate off thru one of the rivets.  There was no ford VIN under the plate.  The car said all VINs were verified so maybe that has an explanation.  But it would make me nervous.

Rarity or production numbers are not the only factor as usual. Demand is always a consideration. If rarity alone was the only factor there are a ton of other cars that would be double or triple their price.  Value is  rarely just a black and white formula from what I've experienced

SCJSTU

I was there the last 3 days........several Shelby Mustangs no sale on a low sale Thursday and  Friday....... Saturday different money.....several CSX Cobras never got near the usual numbers and were no sales

Strange auction

And yes some cars had strange looking oddities.......

Seinfeld's 917 was never going to sell in my opinion I think they were trying to set the market on it for a later sale.....on such a car how do you put a pre sale value on it?

As usual there seemed to be folks with deep pockets that do not care about a car's value but they want a particular car and no one will get in their way

I cannot say for certain if this is the case for 6S119, but many carryovers did not get the Ford VIN stamping in the usual place under the Shelby VIN tag. Rather, it got stamped further out on the inner fender apron, and is usually covered by the lip of the outer fender. I'm currently aware of 31 carryovers like that.

If you want more info about that, go to this web page and then search for the word "anomaly". You'll find a section titled, "Ford VIN Stamping Location Anomaly" with more details and an example picture.

Possible. However, the absence of the underlying former Ford VIN, if true, only determines that the car has not (yet) been identified as that which it is asserted to be.
Dumbfounded the owner/seller did not provide validation to potential buyers (or the auction house). Maybe he did (?).
Nonethless, to drop 400 (large) on a website theory without certitude has the  potential of being problematic.
Silly me, I had thought that the drivers/front VIN stampings conspicuity was purposeful to assist in easy identification and/or fraud prevention.

I took Corey Bowcutt comment to report a lack of any VIN not just one stamped of a ways by an operator. Lack of any would be unusual and a concern IMO. Of course no one should read that the slightly off normal driver side forward VIN was a Shelby only detail for that production period but just another Mustang one that became a Shelby feature for those cars

Corey: That's common for carryover cars.  Imagine my shock when I removed the tag on my carryover and didn't see a VIN.  For whatever reason, the VIN is under the fender lip in the cutout area.  Verified it was there on my car, whew!

Not a Shelby, but on my early 66 SJ car you can clearly see the VIN stamping from underneath as well, so it could have been verified from that angle IMO.
