SAAC-50 Day-By-Day – Friday, August 22, 2025

We have the Sonoma Raceway for the entire weekend and Friday is the first day of track activity.

Open Track – We will have Open Track sessions on all three days; watch for specific times when the official schedule is released. Friday will ONLY be morning sessions.

SAAC's High Speed Event at the Sonoma Raceway will be similar in concept to the open track events held at past national conventions. All drivers must be full or associate SAAC National members, Nor-Cal members or Team Shelby members. This is not a competitive event. There will be no classes, no times taken and no trophies awarded.
Simply put, SAAC's High Speed Event is an opportunity for you to drive your car at a speed you feel comfortable with under the safest conditions we can conceive. Safety is our #1 concern. We want everyone to have an enjoyable time, but we also want to continue to make high-speed events part of all national conventions.

Parade Laps – When the track goes "cold" at the Lunch hour, we will conduct a few sessions of Parade Laps.  This is the opportunity to get the feel of a road racing course, but at highway speed. The Laps are run with a Pace Car and passengers are welcome to ride with you. When you get to the track, you should stop at Registration to pick up your Parade Lap pass to display on your dashboard.

I am compelled to remind you of the dictum about behavior during parade laps issued by Rick Kopec...
"...WARNING!!! DO SOMETHING STUPID AND WE WILL TAKE YOUR PICTURE
AND PRINT IT IN THE NEXT SHELBY AMERICAN MAGAZINE
ALONG WITH A VERY, VERY UNFLATTERING CAPTION.
IF YOU THOUGHT HAVING YOUR BOUNCED CHECK TAPED TO THE CASH REGISTER AT THE
 LOCAL CONVENIENCE STORE IS EMBARRASSING
THEN YOU DO NOT KNOW THE MEANING OF THAT WORD."

Drag Racing – Following Parade Laps, we will shut down and reconfigure the track for an afternoon of Drag Racing. Sonoma Raceway is a world-class venue for drag racing and is an NHRA sanctioned track.

This is your chance to test your reaction time and your car's performance in the quarter mile. Or, better yet... talk to our drag stewards and arrange a head to head match against your buddy. .or a grudge  match against  that  online loudmouth that always breaks your chops... or, how about an "old vs. new" match race? ..or a "big block vs. small block"? The possibilities are delicious, with your unlimited runs.

Evening  Dinner at the Museum – We are planning an evening social event at The Cobra Experience in Martinez, CA. This will be a more formal event, compared to past years. It is still a work in progress with  regard to time and cost, so hold that slot in your calendar... details and registration will be announced soon.

Friday, for sure, will be a busy day.
