I saw this car the day it was being delivered to Grossman by Bill Kolb. Kolb was driving it up Broadway in NYC in my old neighborhood.

His tie was flapping in the breeze as he roared by. The sound of the exhausts was echoing off of the buildings.

He was headed for the West Side Highway on his way to Grossman's in Rockland County. This was the fall of 1967.

I don't remember the exact date but sometime in late October or early November.

It was the first 427 Cobra that I saw "on the street".

It put on quite a show just driving by and was early in the morning about 8:30 so the reaction of the locals was just to grimace at it and a mix of attempted ignoring it v WTF?

W 71st at that time of day is just a mix of night people crawling or staggering home and the day people trying to grab a coffee on the way to work.

The streetwalkers were already home by 8am. I knew many of them by face back then since we all grabbed coffee to go at a local shop on Amsterdam.

A few years later, John Lennon moved into the neighborhood in the "Dakota". The Dakota is on the north side of w 72 nd Street corner with Central Park West that runs north. At the time was definitely a neighbor in transition and now is pretty exclusive/expensive.

"Strawberry Fields", is right across the street in Central Park.

Not really anyone would expect to see a 427 SC traveling through? Me included.

Sorry. This is not"patina". This car wants to be restored to its former glory.

What say you all?

Nova68

This not patina, this is neglect. Don't know the owners situation it's his to do as he sees but probably can't afford the cost of a restoration. Have seen a few of the shelby cars pulled out of the garage or shed that look horrible, and people comment there only original once. Well they were old cars and parked for what ever reason and now since there is value to them they drag them out and wanna get top dollar for a ratty car. Barn find, patina what ever the latest craze is. My opinion something like this cobra needs at least a nice paint job. Probably gonna piss someone off here.

How many other original Cobra owners do you think poured over this car at length? A rare wealth of information in its current state. I can appreciate a perfect restoration but I think I would just maintain it as is. Besides, Im not a fan of this color and I would be tempted to a change with a restoration.

Then it wouldn't be "restored". It would be rebuilt/modified to your taste. This was 1 of 2 cars painted Hertz Gold at the factory. I'd wager that is the lowest number of all the colors.

A subtle mod. More like a restoration with an asterisk. And with no other deviations. But then If I had the money I would chase down a GT40 instead,( Not gold).

hertzz350

I like the gold paint. I would at least paint the car.
