Recommendation Needed: Shelby Mechanic in Georgia

Greetings all,

We have my father's 1968 Shelby GT350 and are looking for a reputable Shelby shop in the Atlanta area. He went to Vintage Mustangs on Ponce De Leon in Decatur, Georgia for years before it closed down.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Excuse me if this was covered in a previous thread.

I would contact Lawrence Booth. He specializes in 69-70 Shelby's, but may know of a 68 specialist.

Give Lee Mathias a call, Mustang Farm, 678-986-1656. He's outside of Atlanta, done a lot of Shelby work over the last 45 years.

You have to remember that we are dealing with a old Ford here, to be exact a old Ford mustang.

The most exotic thing on a old mustang is dual points, the power steering system (if it has power steering) the bundle of hoses, the power cylinder, the control valve, front disc brakes and big old station wagon or full size rear drums and shoes.

Designed almost like a "Ferrari", I said almost.

Find yourself an old time mechanic and you will pay one quarter of what the "experts" will charge you.

Go to meets, car shows and ask around who is a trusted old school mechanic in your area.

I strongly suggest you dont just find "anyone that knows old cars". That would be a recipe for disaster, when they start doing things like throwing out your original parts and replacing them.

You have to find a OLD SCHOOL FORD MECHANIC, which in my area does not exist!

All I see are Chevy, Mopar guys and they do not like Fords thus they screw them up! Same with Body places....

When i lived in upstate NY, I have lots of GREAT mechanics and ONE restoration shop, that I actually shipped my 67 to, fixed all the screw ups, next will be my 66 that will go up there, it adds 3500.00 to get it up and back, but well worth it.

Sad, nobody worth a flying you know what where we are now. New mechanics do not know S$&T

I recommend checking out Vintage Autoworks in Tucker for Shelby restorations. Their work on classic Mustangs is outstanding and trustworthy. Georgia Classic Fords in Woodstock is a strong choice for genuine parts and skilled mechanics.

I appreciate old school expertise; these shops truly honor the GT350 legacy. Good luck, guys!
