A bit confusing

I was surfing Ebay last night and stumbled on to the following posting for a "2018 Shelby COBRA." The Bondurant Edition. The thing I found interesting is it has a CSX2000 series number. Now if that isn't going to confuse the heck out of everyone. I can hear it already.... well it's a 2000 series so its original....... real.... etc. Not sturing the pot, but why the heck would they do that.

Last 1960's SA built COBRA was Daytona coupe CXS2602?  8/31/64

Someone please say it ain't so.... "Each handcrafted Cobra will have a CSX2000 Shelby serial number to be documented in the Shelby Registry."

Adding Bobs name to a 150k kit car wont sell lots of units, or save the sinking ship over at Firebird race track. So when you see a 2000 series car selling for 150k run as fast as you can in the opposite direction. :-[

Here's the word from SAAC HQ on this.... The Summer 2018 Shelby American had a column piece on this very topic.

"Shelby Legendary Cars Announces New California Facility and Showroom
Shelby Legendary Cars, the official licensed builder of authentic '60s Shelby continuation Cobras, Daytona Coupes and GT40s, has announced that the company has moved to a new location in Irvine, California, that features a larger showroom and customer reception area. The new California location reflects the company's national expansion efforts to meet growing demand for Shelby heritage cars. Guests can view a variety of Shelby vehicles on display and work with a company representative to build their own continuation car. Earlier this year, the company also announced a limited run of Bob Bondurant-edition Shelby FIA Cobra roadsters and Daytona Coupes. Each will bear a CSX2000 series serial number [italics ours] and will be supplied as a turnkey, minus the engine and transmission. Those who purchase one of these continuation cars will enjoy a day of training at the Bondurant Racing School in Arizona."

The above news item was carried in the March 22, 2018 of SEMA eNews. It is always interesting to note the latest permutations emanating out of the bundle-of-snakes companies that make up the current Shelby empire....
...We were content to observe from the sidelines, as long as they kept away from mucking around with the original CSX2000 and CSX3000 serial numbers. But according to the above news report, that seems not to be the case any longer.

The Cobra serial numbers CSX2000 and CSX3000 have always been sacrosanct. They were held in such high esteem and reverence for more than fifty years that Cobra replica manufacturers were careful to stay away from them. Apparently, that taboo has now been broken. From here on out we will all have to be on guard; seeing a CSX2000 serial number no longer automatically indicates a genuine Cobra...."

Bottom line....
No matter what number a car carries, the cars we include in the SAAC Registry are the ones created between 1962 and 1967.
All others, no matter how they are numbered, are something else.
Only exception are the 427s (CSX3056, 3057, etc.) ...The "Completion Cars" (as opposed to "Continuation Cars").

I'm glad to hear the line in the sand has been made by the club. 62-67 only.

Why would these be an exception? They were never built in the 60's. They are no different than the "continuation cars"

I was amazed as well when I heard that they were giving these cars 2XXX serial numbers, I guess anything to try to make a $.
Forgive me if I am wrong but hasn't McCluskey been using 2XXX serial numbers on his Daytona Coupe recreations also?

Don't know who they think will be documenting these cars nor in what Shelby Registry. They most certainly will not be in the SAAC Registry, even with an asterisk.

I would assume this would be the likely place, but there may be other's.
