Underdash gauge pod mount

Before I painted the dash I wanted to verify I had all the correct pieces to mount the gauge pod. I have the Shelby Assy Manual, but sizes/types of fasteners are not called out.

The attachment bracket was missing so I sourced a correct used Shelby mount, complete with krinkle paint. It was twice as much as the repop, but I like correct stuff.

The bolt to attach the mount to the dash was gone, but it appears from the Shelby Assembly Manual that this is a hex head lag screw with built-in washer (FF149   14-14X1/2HH,REC,FLNG 1/2,3/8HEX,TPG if you use Jim's spreadsheet). About the same type as used to mount a starter solenoid.
Is this correct?

Second, the 10-24 screws in the pod were too long and appear incorrect. I'm guessing a 10-24 cad-plated slotted round head, about 0.375 long.
Correct?

And lastly, does the fascia plate dig right into the painted dash? That's makes no sense.
Am I missing a piece of rubber or something? There is a line on the mount where something about 3/4 wide sat right in back of the fascia plate on the mount itself. To clear the curve on the dash something like a piece of dense rubber needs to go here that's about 1/4" thick.

This picture and angle might (?) help check/compare with yours as far as alignment of all the plates and such

Mine looks just like that as far as alignment goes. But this means the front fascia plate does indeed just dig into the dash. Unless I'm missing something.

Are those the correct fascia screws? What material are they? I thought I'd read brass.

Does O/P always go on the left?

Yes, the oil on the left, Amps on the right.

Diagram from '67 Assembly book, shows slotted screws.

(also just for others reading, not all cars had fasteners holding the filler plate, early cars - no screws holding the plate)

My under dash gauges have the same Phillips head screws that yours has, all of my screws are matching, but I have been told that they are not correct. I have owned my car since '82 and had never touched them. That does leave 15 years for previous owners to have changed them, but I would think I would have a combination of slotted and Phillips head screws if that had happened. It would be interesting to know who else has the Phillips head screws in theirs.

Which ones are you referring to? The once that attach  the bracket to the main body or the ones for the face plate?

Ok, Thanks. The Assy Manual shows this too.
I've been bitten many times by the Mustang Assy Manuals showing one thing, but production practices being quite different.

I'm late enough to have screws.  My filler plate screws have been molested. Turns out one is larger in size than the other. Looks like one side stripped out and was replaced by larger size. I didn't see the size difference right away.
Since the smaller size has to be the right one, perhaps I have one correct screw: 4-40 x 0.500,
round head, slotted, brass with a 0.215 head diameter. Anybody care to verify?

The ones that attach the face plate, and I believe they hold the bezels that go around the gauges as well. All of my screws look like the ones in the picture above that shows the two Phillips head screws in the face plate/

I've been sent a few pics of other pods. So far all three have straight slot screws on the front face plate and have straight slot on the side screws that retain the large, black front bezels.
I'm also 3 out 3 on the front fascia screws being oval head -- not round head.

All of the owners purport their pods as original, to the best of their knowledge.

The cars are in the 01300s and later, since era of build is important.

My observations on the pod screws are as follows based on my GT-350 s/n 19xx.
- The majority of interior screws Ford installed are Phillips and SA seemed to install whatever they had.
- The Shelby assembly manual figure depicts slotted screws in pod, but the radio bezel also depicts slotted.  All 67-68 radio bezels I've seen have Phillips.  Major discrepancy IMHO.
- My car came with Phillips chromed steel like the rest of the interior. I'm sticking with what it came with.  Car generally not messed with with exception of the items apparently stolen at some point in time it's rumored.  It is what it is.

The counter sunk or oval head style slotted is what is typical on front and on the side holding the bezel cap from my observations.Of course different size. Gun blued steel not brass on the bezel cap screws and silver on the face plate . Most likely some untypical anomaly's out there but those would be the exception and not the rule. Just my point of view.

25 Years ago I visited a guy in Walnut Creek, CA. His name was Marc Hefte and he had bought a lot of
parts from Shelby in L.A. when they closed and production was moved east and taken over by Ford.
He had about 6 pods of both types. They are different if used for oil pressure or amp gauges as the side holes are
are lined up differently. He also had the brackets holding the instruments and screws as well as the front plate.
I bought a couple of sets from him and the screws were, as Bob said, slotted and counter sunk.
