Ok,  Cobra experts, I posted pics of one of my favorite 2000 series cars, thinking it was CSX2196 the "Flip Top" cobra. It has the nose section and exhaust that seems to match what I believe is the CSX2196.  But now I am wondering if I have the right car.  Can someone confirm for me that it is that car being unloaded at the SA race shop. Also, all the current pics of this car shows a different nose / front fender configurations than the pics i posted. Are the ones I posted early or prototype or what. Personally , I like this version. Thanks for some help.
Also, what is the story behind the use of the "special aluminum" 390ci FE. Why not go straight to the 427. Was the decision based on class engine size rules?

That's still csx2196... I believe at that point the car was ready to ship out to the Nassua for the Speed Week in November '64.

By the way great photos and thank you for posting them!

Thanks Richstang for the reply. I guess this nose configuration was "Pre" crash haha.

I'm not sure what you mean by pre-crash. That is definitely the post crash version in November '64.

The earliest photos in my file of csx2196 is in the typical body configuration at Sebring in March 64. That's where the big wreck happed during the practice session. They worked through the night to make repairs and raced the next day in the 12hr event. Later in September '64 the flip nose version appeared unpainted at Riverside for testing.

CSX # ? ?   This might have been on forum 1.0 ? My note says Cumberland '68, but the CSX # I have with the photo, doesn't jive with the history in my 4th edition of the registry. Some one must know this car with that huge roll bar, and the extra light below the bumper ?

This is the front and back of the post card that came with the 1/16 427 Cobra model issued by MPC back in the '80s.

Scanned by me from my collection. In fact, I've got several of these models that I will be selling soon.

previous photos of CSX2196 "Flip Top "Turd" motivated me to post these photos from Nassau Speed Week showing it with the nose & tail body sections removed, I had not seen the "bare bones" revealed before of the "Flip Top" chassis.

What's the trick for posting pics?  I have a few but something isn't working.
