Some where some one is driving their collector car for the last time but they don't know it . Drive your car every time like it could be the last memory of it .

Ah yes, the days when you drag raced a powerful car on wire wheels.  With slicks, I wonder how many guys sheared off some spokes?

2006 FGT, Tungsten. Whipple, HRE 20s, Ohlin coil-overs. Top Speed Certified 210.7 mph.

Kirkham Cobra 427.  482-inch aluminum side-oiler. Tremec 5-spd.

I guess it doesn't matter much but I'd think it was more just flat out being cheap by Harr not wanting to put a set of Halabrands on the car rather then making a statement? Although, lot's of times in those days the Ford guys were doing little things just to piss of the Chevy guys.

The "Hawk" was "infamous" for flipping them the 'bird. Racing then was not a gentlemen's sport. I'm sure that more then one time linguini got thrown at the Ferrari team? You didn't walk anywhere near the pits for concerns for personal safety. Certainly "you" likely could hear virbality aimed at questioning your manhood or virility?

The "work/release" program had not been suggested yet and I wonder if it was that some of the crew still had not been identified and apprehended? I guess it kept them off the streets for a while? You had to be there to understand.  ;)

At one time the owner of the Harr Ford Dragon Snake also owned the small block Dragon Snake, CSX2427. They were parked next to each other in his collection before my friend Rich Mason bought it. He parked it next to CSX2196...aka "The Turd"....first 427. Was fortunate to drive both cars at Thunderhill!

It was a scary car, and yes it was a hand full. To make it even more "puckering" was doing an open track session at Thunderhill! Nothing is more stressful than driving your friends $2m car going into turn 5! I definitely used a point by anytime someone wanted to "push". CSX 2427 was more enjoyable and even though it was a Dragon Snake it did handle well (for a Cobra) and the Weber's came alive about 2300!

6s2055 - seriously, thanks for posting.  It's great to hear from those that have actually been in, around and driven these cars like CSX2196.  At times it can seem like they were just a myth until those among us speak in the first-hand experience.

Rich Mason who owned both of those cars was really a Corvette guy. He actually traded a Vintage Gulf Corvette for the The Dragon Snake...CSX2427. He also had a rare Corvette SR2. He believed they should all be driven.
Back in 1966 I bought my first Cobra which I still can't find. Traded that for a new '67 GT 500 (0962), that just didn't cut it so then bought CSX2192. Sold both in 1968 to by my first home in Lake Tahoe. Back then they weren't of much value. After years went by and kids growing up got back to the "hobby". Since then have had a few more...'67 GT500 0195, '69 GT350 0184, and '66 GT350 6S2055 track car. Like most of the "gray group" time came to downsize. Interesting that at 74 I can't remember what day it may be, but do remember vin #s of past Shelby's along with the good times and lifelong friends.
