Thank you all,  it's tough getting details of it's racing history.  I've been able to connect with three people familiar with the car when it raced in Peru. I've got several photos of it racing from 1969-1974.  It raced in the Caminos del Inca which is a 1700-2000 mile race around Peru.  It's like the Mille Miglia in Italy. It won twice with Teodoro "El Zorro" Yangali driving.

Woodbridge.  I bought the car from Virginia Beach.  It's only been here for about two weeks.  Where are you?

So, one thing I think I'd like to fix on the car is the rear end.  I understand the current rear didn't come with the car.  I'm still learning so bear with me.  I understand this is a 1966 rear but not the correct one for a Shelby.  Mine came originally with a detroit locker if that makes a difference.  The story goes that when my car was imported back to the US with a 65 Shelby the rears were swapped when both were restored simultaneously.  The 65 has a 66 rear as well but it currently has overriders on it.  I have the original metal tag that came with my rear.

Could you please confirm this rear didn't come with my car?

Are the rear ends date coded?

Is there an external indication that the rear is a detroit locker?

2  parts to the rear. The center section with the locker. That is cast iron with a date code. It holds the locker and gears. The black housing itself that everything bolts to. Looks like you have a 65 style housing where the back is fully rounded. The 66 style has a bump out for the ring gear. My carryover has the 65 style I just took the locker out of it. I also have a 66 dark green #1127 under restoration. I can send you some pics. I live near Leesburg VA if you want to PM me.

If the Housing came out of a '65; I don't see the brackets for the over-ride traction bars.

Here are some pics to show the difference in the rear axle housing between 1965 & 1966.
Pics 1 & 2 are 1965 style.
Pics 3 & 4 are 1966 style.

Thanks Gents!  I haven't looked at the rear closely since buying the car - I haven't checked on the top of the rear where the overriders should be.  I wonder if they were ground off.  The '65 that was restored at the same time has a '66 rear with overriders (I presume welded on).  I'll take a closer look tomorrow and let you know what I find.

Where would I find the date code on the pumpkin?
