Reproduction Remote and manual mirrors.

Has anyone had an issue with the mirrors not staying tight and losing adjustment. If so, did you come up with a fix for it?

I have had issues with that same thing. I used epoxy to sinch the bolt to the mirror head down. I used that mirror for 10 years. I just recently  bought a new cnvex mirror from Scott Drake. So far i am pleased with it. I drive my car alot and it works well in traffic.

The remote mirror on mine does not hold adjustment for as long as I can remember. We used to stuff anything behind and on the sides to keep in place back in the day.I was planning on getting a replacement while working to get it back into use. Hope the replacements are better. I was also looking at the Scott Drake convex one.  I really miss not having a right side mirror. I have not seen one on a 67. Anyone have any information on right side mirror?

The short answer is no. It is the nature of those mirrors to be this way.

My '67 has just original remote. That one's performance is acceptable.

My '68 originally since it used the same driver's remote as the '7 was acceptable as well.


I had, in the late '70s, changed those mirrors to '69 Mach 1 mirrors and they worked well. Recently due to peer pressure, I went back to the orginal "chrome" remote and added the passenger side.

Within a year, sitting in a climate controlled garage, the chrome pitted on them. I have to admit, that's an accurate reproduction part, because that's exactly what the originals did. Pit City.

There are lots of compromises the original chrome mirrors have and you need to choose. Original or good? Nothing in between.

They were available as a dealer installed option, but not remote operated. 

Right side (door) mirrors are available.  Need to install two riv-nuts (drill holes).

To 8-barrel's original post, he and Doug are right they were/are not the best material or good at holding the set you want.

My guess is one of the two prior owners of #0036 put a Ford dealer bought one on my car.  This would be before January 30 of 1971.  I like it.  One thing to be aware off is that the small steel piece inside that defines the angle so that it is for right or left must be the correct r/l part.  In other words, order the right side for the right side.
  Picky judges knock points off but it is a safety item for me. Tuff eh?

I can deal with re-setting the mirrors. I can't deal with them being made out of recycled zinc crap that can't hold chrome without pitting. That gets to me.

Personalizing ones cars is the owners right and prerogative . With that said when you enter said car in a concours venue where the goal is to get it looking like the day it was first delivered to the first owner from the dealer then don't be bothered when the personalized items get deductions. You knew what you were getting into. SAAC for instance also deducts for other non stock safety related items like Ford emergency road flare kit's,foglights (in 67 class) . Just to name a couple.  MCA requires a fire extinguisher for safety (regardless of make) to be with a car during judging. SAAC doesn't require them at this time.
