Help with buying 1 of 2 Gt500s at auction - needed ASAP

Hi all,
I'm NEW to the Shelby game (have only a later model). There is VERY limited information on these two Shelbys so two questions, advice towards prices for each one and who / how / where can I find out more info on "correctness" before buying? Thank you!!

Your best and most up to date information on those cars is going to be from the 68 Registrar. If he doesn't have what you want the information probably doesn't exist

Don't get in a hurry.  Get educated first before you buy.   There will be plenty others come up for sale.  It is important to learn what to look for when analyzing if a car is a clone, rebody or has been wrecked and repaired.

Also,an auction is maybe not the best place to buy,especially your first one....You would really need an in depth physical inspection (by a marque expert),as well as as much provenance as possible(preferably ironclad) as there ARE fakes out there......Slow your roll(pun intended) and Good Luck!!!

All above replies are spot on, follow their lead.  Just looking at the photos, the first car looks more correct, PROPER stance, second car looks to be lowered, and an aftermarket A/C

I believe that aftermarket AC is added to a non AC car

Without seeing the tags and paperwork, I would not have any interest

I'll be at the auction selling a couple of mid year vette restomods. I can look at the cars(planned to anyway) the second car boasts 428 CJ engine but doesn't have KR stripes...I was planning on looking them over pretty good myself...

When you impulse buy this type of classic car you end up getting  costly "speeding" ticket

Sellers should know by now to add the serial numbers to the advertising somewhere. If it's there, I don't see it so I don't know which cars they are. You are going to need that to reference them in the Registry.

You need to remember that because of the potential values that there are a number of cars brought back from the dead that otherwise would have been crushed. That doesn't mean they necessarily should be avoided but it opens them up to a closer nut and bolt examination that can't easily be done in pictures like this.

Actually Mecum should know better. They've been through this before. The lack of details is suggesting to me that there could be something to hide?

Regardless, if you thinking about checking the cars two days before the auction, you have the right instinct, just very bad execution.

I agree the auction houses should be required to add serial numbers, but then again they have different motivations.
