Anyone out there know the max width for 15" Avon CR6ZZ tires you can put under a 1965 GT350 with the standard wheel openings (no flares) avoiding interference for normal street driving? Better yet - if you have a pic of a car with such could you show it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Been running, AVON CR6ZZ  225/65x15's  on PS Engineering 15" x 8" Wheels, for over 14 years,
now, on my '66 Carryover. I have No clearance issues. Others, may have different, experiences.

I have Kumo 205 16R 15 on my 66 front fenders and no modifications done to front fenders. A arms are lowered as well.  215 in the back.
Not a lot of miles on them. Maybe 5,000.00. But...they are OLD! 7 years old actually so I need to replace them. The rubber loses its elasticity over time. And when you buy tires check the manufacture date on them. NOS doesn't cut it where tires are concerned, gentlemen. Show yes. Go no!

They are Firestones instead of Avons, but I have 215/65R15 on the original Cragars on my carryover. Lowered A-arms, the same as your '65. The only interference I have is during a full lock turn on uneven ground. I just don't to a full lock turn into my rising driveway. Other than than, no problems in normal street driving.

I am hearing the 225/60R15 is also a nice fit, little shorter and wider tread compared to the 225/65R15.  Please advise the best place to purchase AVON Tyres.

Thanks

Cory

Hi all,

I found Roger Krauser Racing at 2896 Grove Way, Castro Valley, CA 94546. 1-800-510-RACE.  Their site has the price sheets on the CR6ZZ tyres.

I have 225 / 60 x 15 (front) and 245 / 60 x 15 (rear) mounted on Torque Thrust D's. Front fender lips flattened as well as the rear. I did have 255 / 60 x 15 R1's on the rear, but they rubbed when full fuel tank. This is on a 65 GT 350 Competition replica with the large tank.

205/70/15 on 5S241 , it's the more close to original's blue dots .

I'm using the same size as well on 6S141.

It's funny - at first, they looked narrow to me since, as you mentioned, they are close to the size of the original blue dots.  However, I've really found the size to be extremely pleasing visually.  They give the car more of an original look, IMO.  And, with radials, they handle well, too.

Although, my 67 Shelby has much, much wider tires in the front and back with no rubbing.
Nothing beats a classic!

I have the CR6ZZ's (205/70/15) that I bought from Roger Krause racing on 5S276. They are mounted on 15X7 Torq-Thrust D's. I drove the car from San Rafael, CA to Moline IL with NO issues. I use this combo for everyday driving and put the Cragars and Blue Dot's on for shows... Just bare in mind that these are soft racing tires and don't expect to get 20,000 miles out of them!!

I just recently retired my 66 350 from concours showing and want to replace my blue dots so I have good drivability.
Reading this thread Avon tires seem to be a solution...why?
