The supplier I used before, Palmetto, seems to be out of business. Does anyone know where to get phosphate and oil coating from? I found someone who makes magnises phosphate. Is that the same thing?

Manganese phosphate comes out typically darker then Zinc Phosphate. Many prefer it. You can control the shade somewhat by amount of time the part is exposed to.

Since I want the parts I'm going to phosphate to look like the ones I already did a few years ago, I'll try a test piece for about 6 minutes in the solution instead of the recommended eight  and see how that works out. Thanks.

I just noticed POR-15 40201 metal prep. It says it leaves a zinc coating on the parts. Has anyone else tried this product or will it leave the wrong finish on my parts?

It does leave a light coating and so do other metal prep products. It is however too light of a shade of gray and not a heavy coating if trying to do something that looks like what the parts looked like when installed back in the day IMO. Others may think differently .

I must be looking it up wrong on eBay and eBay motors. I type in zinc phosphate and all I get is the primers and paints and dental cement.

Today's results. I had to heighten my pot so the hood hinges would fit in up and down. I just tack welded more stainless steel around the pot and sealed it with silicone. Works perfectly. It holds 8 gallons. I used 64 oz of phosphate solution. I boiled all the water before I put it in the pot and kept it at temperature (200 degrees F) with a hot plate and a map torch on the side of the pot. I hung all the parts in the pot with stainless steel rod instead of using tongs. The results you see are the directions being followed to the letter with the exception of the distributor hold down which I left in there 15 minutes to try to get it darker. It didn't get much darker. The hood springs on the other hand, I pulled out at 8 minutes instead of 10 because they were getting too dark for my taste. I guess spring steel acts differently with the phosphate than regular steel. You have to spray the heck out of the hood hinges and hood latch with WD-40 as you move them to get all the rust out of the joints that you can't get at when you glass bead them. As it says on the instructions I put the solution in plastic buckets so I can use it again at another time. I think the parts came out great.
