[/quote Can you elaborate on what info about the paint you thought the DSO may help you with? Tire info would be more relative to the time the car was built and in this case Shelby VIN given the SA memos on the subject.

When you say "...My 67 has this listed as the DSO ... " Where/on what is this DSO listed?

Asking because the Shelby '67 DSO I've seen the last four digits are 25XX or 26XX .  Have not seen one for a "67 that had 04XX.

Is this car a '67 Shelby?

The first two digits relate to the ordering dealers' district, 74 would be a late assigned and/or western district - I think.  I don't have a cheat-sheet of all the district codes.

Hopefully others will know more...

Under DSO is says 720477. San Jose Ordering District Under Paint or tire Order #0477

So does that mean it was ordered internally in San Jose under the paint or tire dept? If so what would the paint or tire dept be ordering these cars for?

Thanks

What piece of paper(?) is this typed/written/printed on?

I know where the DSO is on the Marti and tag. I'm just trying to figure out why it would have been ordered under the paint or tire dept.

Just was highlighting for others that might be able to help answer your question... I did not understand where this info was based on you opening post.

I've not seen that before on any of the DSO's I've seen, hopefully someone else will have.

(great looking early car!)

The tire call out doesn't sound special but the  (Captain Obvious here) paint IS special. Yes it would be nice to nail that down as to why it is noted that way. Not trying to be a smart a$$ at all , this is odd for sure.

72 is the San Jose District Sales Office Code.

(71 is the Los Angeles District Office. We know '66 GT350s were ordered under that DSO district. Early '67 Shelby's were initially ordered with the 71 district, but prior to being built by San Jose, the DSO district was changed to 84. The 84 that district was specific to Shelby American. Later as Ford took over the financial burden of production (I believe) the 84 district became 89, still specific to Shelby)

Having an added 4 digit number after the that is highly unusual for a Mustang. I don't recall seeing that on any other Mustang Marti Reports before.

I notice the report mentions 3,900 cars were ordered from the DSO. I'd have to believe that is not related to the #0477 order portion, but rather the SJ district at the time. We also see the DSO item number (0130) which I also believe is in order of specific paint color groups. That might be helpful in the case of a special paint car.

Since the Marti Report notes it as "Paint or Tire Order" You should go back to Kevin for some clarification. Because you are a regular customer of his, frequently buying Marti's (remind him of that). He should give you a better explanation of why the two different order names were given on the report you already paid for. I'm sure there is a good reason, but I doubt any of us are going to know why.

Is this a fairly new Marti report?

Its a possibility that Kevin has changed his way of reporting special order cars and the report is a result of that.

Have owned a number of special order cars and their Marti reports as well as their door tags had the six digit DSO as shown on your report. IMHO it appears that this (without any additional information) is a typical special order paint car and report of that.

If the report of something really special then the dealer information would have the Ford division notated not a dealership over in Concord.

Looks like a very nice highly optioned car where the owner didn't like any of the regular production colors offered for Mustangs. In that case salesmen would try and steering the buyer to a color that was being offered on one of the other Ford or Mercury lines.  If that didn't fit the needs of the buyer then they would go through the fleet color book and pick a color from there.

If I recall correctly the code would start with "WT" since its a 67. The color code would be typed on the bottom section of the the buildsheets and included in the paperwork that was suppose to be in an envelop in the glove box when delivered.

Some special order paint cars were part of later promotions so multiple cars were ordered under the same DSO as Shelbys were. Considering where your car was sent and that it was 67 I doubt your car was part of one of these but instead as mentioned above most likely in individual order.

JD thanks for posting a picture of the Marti.  Maybe we'll see more of these if this is how Kevin is doing these from here on

Jeff, the Marti report notes it was issued sometime in 2018 (from upper right corner).

Thank You for all the added detail. I think you are correct. The #0477 could be the order number, not a department.
Maybe Marti has more info or paperwork on that.

I found another special paint car with a photo of a partial Marti Report issued in 2005. It looks the same. It has the added four digits after the DSO district number.
(It might be Mr. Bill's, a '67 purple Mustang coupe)

The 'Order Type" on the OP's cars' Marti is written as "Retail", so I don't see that as anything other than a customer special order.
As you said, there is no mention of a "Local Promotion' or 'Test Vehicle' or anything else out of the ordinary.
With the dealer name listed instead of 'FMC', it further supports that thought.

Nice photo of the Special Order Paint Selector Fleet Colors book!

Unfortunately Ford didn't keep records of the special paint orders as far as what color or color code was used :(  If the car was part of a promotion that can help with figuring out what the color was used since you can search out other cars in the order group for more information  or if another has already gone to the effort of matching the color. If it is an individual order then your left to your own detective efforts which includes comparing paint chip samples from other lines or gaining access to a fleet book.

Helped a 69 owner (Mustang) a few months back - his turned out to be a T-Bird color from 69
