I find the date of publication interesting in the timeline of the GT350 program, May 1964, so the actual driving event would be 30~60 days earlier,  March/April 1964??
Regular production started April 1964, I recall the SAI testing at Riverside took place later in the summer 64, Chuck Cantwell was hired in August?

"At present, Ford has plans for Carroll Shelby (of the Cobras) to campaign 3 of these cars as a team on the Sports Car Club of America circuit.
They'll run in A production catagory (pending acceptance), where in Ford's words,....we hope they finish right behind the Cobras and right in front of the Sting Rays.
They may just do that because they have all the optional equipment ready to do the job. The special racing options include the 271-HP Cobra engine, further suspension modifications
(which include an independent rear system that's very similar to that used on their all-out GT race car - more on that later this year).
The racing version will also be set up with disc brakes at all four corners.
No drivers have been announced yet, but it's safe to bet that Dave MacDonald, the stock/sports car driver will top the list."

I looked in more detail at some of the article photos, I see the classic J.T. driving posture, I'd lay $'s it's Jerry doing the driving chores!

It's a very early car as it has the Fairlane "High Performance" badge instead of the flatter , wider Mustang piece.
Celebrating 46 years of drag racing 6S477 and no end in sight.
