When Shelby renumbered the dash plate, what did they do about getting the PROPER rivets?  Does anyone reproduce those rivets now? I want to remove my dash VIN for having the striped down body media blasted and then need the proper rivets to put it back together.

Bob, I assumed the OP was asking about a 69 since his other questions have been about a 69 GT500 but we both know what assume spells...  ;D

You are correct that I do refer to the 69.  Sorry for the confusion, and Yes I am referring to the added VIN plate.  But the real question is, where can I obtain the correct rivets?

TOBKOB

The dash vin plate was installed at Ford but I don't know if you can buy the correct rivets. I remember a few years ago that someone had a limited number available but I think it is a security reason(fraud) that they aren't generally available to the public. Someone with more knowledge can chime in.

That is correct.  Back in the sixties there was a lot of car theft issues.  So, the government had the manufacturers make special rivets.  How about trying to cover your current plate before the media blaster has at it.

I will try to cover the plate.  What was special about the rivet?  What do they look like?

roddster

Well, I'm wondering why you are asking.  Has it already been taken off?

Anyway, it looks like a pop rivet with rounded eight points

I was looking to remove it before it went to media blasting. I can do my best to protect it, but thought it better to remove and replace.

Coralsnake

Its called a rosette rivet and it is available

Thanks Coralsnake.  Can you tell me where I can obtain them?

Coralsnake

There are several vendors online, just do a search. i would guess AMK products also carries them

I have not seen enough 1969 rivets to know, but the earlier cars just used a regular rivet

When I had my car stripped I never had them blast that area. I have not seem 69s that had problems in that area. I MADE SURE that the upper cowl and firewall were not done as I have my original sealers still on it-can't get more factory than that. Does your firewall upper windshield area need work? I left the windshield in my car when it was blasted and kept the fact paint and blackout on that area as well as most of the firewall. Gary
