Looking for a owner of a 65 GT350 that has converted from dual points to the Pertronix 1281D solid state ignitor system.
Have 3 questions.
1. Did you bypass the 9 volt pink resistor wire?
2. Did you use original yellow top coil or change to another coil? If you changed coil, what coil did you use?
3. Did you alter the original wiring to the 65 Cobra tach?
Thanks

I don't have a '65, but had Pertronix in our '66,  6S550, and didn't do any real rewiring  I hooked the wire from the Pertronix to the hot side of the coil. Used the yellow top coil, and  no rewiring for the tach. Hope this helps. Ron
Original owner of 6S550. Owned since 1967. 64,000 Miles, all body original except hood and front valance. All glass original except windshield. Still has aluminum 4 speed. Has replacement Mico.  Also own 1966 Mustang convertible. They are drivers, not trailer queens.

Thanks Ron
Anyone else have any experience with this conversion?

The reason I ask these questions.. If the Pertronix module is simply a switch activated by a rotating magnet that takes the place of points that open and close based on rotation of a 8 sided cam that will wear over time, why must a different coil be used as well as increased voltage due to bypassing the pink resistor wire?

I've had Pertronix on a 66 with yellow top for 20+ years. Just checked and FWIW, it's a 27R-V3 module, red wire to Bat. black to Dist. on coil. Didn't alter any ignition wiring and can't comment on tach wiring for 65

SG66, the module I am looking at is a 26R-V3. So probably slightly earlier revision than your 27R-V3..Appears there are revisions within same version of the module.
