John my 70 GT350 vert originally was sold by DuBois in Belgium. Then went to France and I got it in 1985. I had email conversations with Claude many years ago and his memory failed him on what happened to the paperwork of the cars he sold over there. Do you know if any paperwork has surfaced on these cars? Have you seen any 70 Shelbys with a FIBERGLASS front spoiler. Mine had one that looked to have 90,000 kilometers of road rash on it when I bought the car in 1985 and only had holes in the valance for that spoiler. Nobody ever repoed a fiberglass front spoiler to my knowledge and I heard of possibly one other car brought back had one on it also that. Thanks for all your work over there on these cars. Gary

Do not remember any paperwork, but would ask around.

If I have seen a 70 Shelby with a fiberglass front spoiler, I would have thought it was a repro. Would ask a friend with a original export Shelby.

Gary , I am not sure why you think no repro fiberglass front spoilers were ever made. The after market spoilers back in the day were all made of fiberglass. MIER Racing fiberglass parts is at least one company that comes to mind. They were one of the companies that were making them in the 70's. All fiberglass was the cheapest way to make them in smaller numbers compared to a injection mold.They were like that for years.They didn't work out well because they didn't flex when coming in contact with a curb and cracked. It wasn't until about 25 years or so ago that the aftermarket stated making them out of more flexible plastic (but stiffer then original) and not until about 15 years or so ago that Pug Ford made them out of the softer plastic like original. I can only speculate on if your front valance had been replaced or not to explain the hole pattern but just addressing the fact the the fiberglass aftermarket spoiler was all you could get when the Ford ones were obsoleted. I hope you find a explanation to your satisfaction one way or the other so that you don't have to wonder.

A friend has this frontspoiler from his Export Shelby. Was on it when he bought it many years ago. Most likely an early repro.

Just remember front spoilers were shipped in the car and dealer installed pre-delivery and many times stolen or installed on another car in the lot if that's what it took to make a deal. I have seen and had several boss mustangs that were original paint that never had the spoiler installed and some owners never wanted it installed. If u had to haul a car or pull a car out of a ditch or stuck in snow the front spoiler would get damaged from chain or rope when trying to hook on to the car and those old wreckers would damage front spoilers too.

I remember contacting Rick Parker many years ago when he had an export 70 GT350 and he thought his did have glass one on it. He was going to check it out as it wasn't in his shop at the time .Never got an answer. Like I said I believe-reproduction or not-my car got a fiberglass one on it when it was new or close to it or someone went to work to make sure the  fiberglass one was installed in the same exact holes as the plastic one  and from my experience the variances as to how one was installed could vary greatly. Pics of my car very early in it's life show a front spoiler so doubt it was delivered without one on it. When the valance was stripped along with the fenders no other holes were found in my valance or fenders. I am wondering if the export cars got a glass one made over there for what ever reason(stolen or not). I'm sure it is a mystery that will never be solved as to when my car got a glass one which was damaged and repaired at one time and looked like it had 90K Kilos of road rash on it. Yeah, I got a plastic one on my car now.  :). Gary

A good way to tell an original spoiler came with N marked sunken head slip washer bolts and shoulder washer nuts black oxide plated with the 70 Shelby spoiler instructions  paper. I made copies of my RARE original 70 spoiler instructions paper and supplied the concours correct N bolts and nuts with the latest improved 70 Shelby spoiler made and sold by Hank H. FL.
