Pookies at it again . it is a legit rare part but not as he infers . https://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-shelby-mustang-fastback-gt500-NOS-gas-cap/233465672737  . Pookie discription-This is a NOS 1967 shelby GT500 gas cap with shelby emblem. This is the rare silver metal emblem and the cap is a fomoco assy line cap. The box date 8-14-67. This is for a concourse show car. I am sure the glue on the emblem is dried so you will need to apply your own adhesive to apply. I have a few other auctions and i will combine shipping. It is a for sure a early 67 production Fomoco in the rectangle cap(cap portion) but the emblem may be right for very early 68 but not a 67. 67 emblems have the gold background and not silver. 68's are silver. FYI later 67 and all 68's had the Autolite trademark on the cap portion.

Guessing at that price, he will have it a while.

Thanks for the continued education on parts accuracy.

Bob, I thought '68's did not have a model designation - either SHELBY (snake) COBRA for the GT350 and GT500's and COBRA (snake) JET for the KR's. Please clarify.

[/quote]That is why I said "maybe" early 68 but not 67. Maybe it was planned to be used in 68 and designers changed their minds. Regardless if not early 68 then a blem. I have never seen a grill or fender emblem with silver background have you? I don't have any reason to believe there ever was any silver background used in 67 production. It would not make sense for a silver background on the gas cap emblem that does not match the trunk lid emblem right above it !!! The same for fender emblem. How messed up would that look :o .

Bob, OK I see what you meant.

The only "silver" '67 emblems I've (and you) have seen were terribly faded, sun bleach '67s that were originally the light goldish tone - not silver from the factory.

Agree the gold emblems that faded became so colorless that only the silver background remained were not silver when new.

Did the early '68 emblems have the GT350/500 designations on them?

So what Bob said is incorrect about the emblem being right for an early '68? The picture shows it as silver, not gold, and with the GT500 designation on it?

Accordingly then, it is just wrong for either year?

The color makes it look wrong at a glance(even in a bad PooKing photo) to my eye.

Yes, wrong for either '67 or '68.

We are still learning about very early 68 features . It is possible it was used or intended to be used on some of the first 68 GT500's before changing directions . I am not aware of any picture documentation to support it's use however. That is why I said maybe  ;) . I didn't want to say never until I know for sure.  I have seen NOS silver ones liked discussed before . Mostly sold out of a estate some years ago that had a lot of NOS emblems from the MFG. Pookie bought a lot . I did too but stayed away from buying the silver GT500 ones. He has been slowly getting rid of them over the years. I have had discussions  ::) with owners that were very vocal that they were used in 67. They quieted down when I asked the question of  what they thought the odds were that Shelby on purpose would place a silver background gas cap emblem and a gold background trunklid emblem on the same car only a couple feet apart above it. ;)  Shelby did some out of the ordinary things but not too many could be categorized as stupid.  ;)

Please don't take my words out of context. I said " maybe early 68" for the reason that I was not for sure and didn't want to say never because of that. The collective we are still learning information .
