Thanks camp upshur and TA22 for the info on Randy.  IIRC, he was a dental student in '81.  I got my love of GT350s from his car.

I was a semi-regular at Galpin COCOA meetings in the '81-84 time period.  Still good friends with Tom Mc and Lynn.

I don't believe it is 2299. 2299 had the "taller" windshield/roof. From the back to the front, the side window
opening was larger (taller) at the front and tapered down to the rear. See SAAC Registry pages 403and 405
to compare windshield height. Also, page 396 for explanation.
I believe it is 2602.
Page 402: "Shoen brokered the car for Carroll Shelby who brought it back to the U.S. and delivered
it to Mike McClusky in Torrance, California for a ground up restoration. The car was completed in time for SAAC -9
in Anaheim, California and the Monterey Historics in 1983, when Ford was the honored marque."

Spoke with Jim W at length last night.  He is out of town and will review the photo tonight to see if he can remember the date and/or the event at Ontario.  His tentative belief is the event was the Mustang II intro............. will follow-up.  Definitely csx2602, he drove this car frequently during this time period.

I'm going to side with Dave and Tom on this photo as being CSX2602.

The drivers side cowl vent/scoop looks like a match. On csx2299 the cowl vent/scoop is tall and round. That doesn't match the photo where it is low and flat. I also noticed csx2299 had a white roundel on it back in 75, at Willow Springs. (Not sure if it was painted on or not). Back in '82, it appears csx2602 had the same white painted rims.

2602 has air jack connections on both sides of  cowl   2299 only has it on rt side
Some where some one is driving their collector car for the last time but they don't know it . Drive your car every time like it could be the last memory of it .

Could the location of the picture be McCluskey's, with the Torrance airport in the background?

The air jack connection is visible on csx2602 in '65 at Daytona. However they seem to disappear by the time the car arrives overseas. I don't see them at the Nurburgring or at Le Mans.

Not McCluskey's shop at the Torrance Airport. I've been there many times and there's not the kind of open spaces as in the photo. Not even in 1970s/80s or whenever the pix was taken.

I'm betting on Ontario Motor Speedway.

Anyone know where the Mustang II west coast press intro was held? I do not.  (That's some trivia that I never thought we'd be asking.)

When you guys said something about Mustang II, I recalled reading about a Cobra II press day at Ontario that a bunch of Shelby guys were at. Found the article on page 50 of the Aug/ Sept 1976 Marque, with a photo of CSX 2602 at the head of a line up of Cobras and Shelbys (May 5, 1976). But on the same page,  there is an article about an open track at Willow Springs (May 22-23 1976), no mention of a Daytona coupe,  but the accompanying photo has the same garages/ hangars as the ones in Rich's photo. So the plot thickens....

Okay, Cobra II, not just the Mustang II intro.  That more makes sense why CS and the SA cars would be there.

1976 would seem to jibe with the hairstyle of the guy on the left in the top photo, and the tires on the GT350.

I'm doubling down on OMS.

I'm mixed up with the images I have in my files of CSX2300 and CSX2602.

Are all the photos in the scan of the Japanese magazine the same car ?

Can some one I.D. the cars in these images for me, thanks.

My photo - someone has flipped it though.
Black & Gold Mustang II Driveaway for dealers at Ontario Motor Speedway.
We set up 2 slalom courses in the pits for the dealers (and COCOA members) using white/blue Mustang IIs. Shelby made one medium pass and backed it up with top time of the day that no one could touch.
Coupe belonged to Mike Shoen. It was on display at Petersen's museum a block or so west of Grauman's Chinese Theatre. It was also at SAAC 1 in Oakland so that should help narrow down which one it is.
COCOA borrowed it often for meetings and events. First Coupe I ever drove. I also got a ride in Mike's second coupe and drove Shelby's freshly restored one at Willow Springs. We borrowed it for an article when Petersen revived Sports Car Graphic.
Black 66 was Jim & Jan Shields. 6S843 sits in the background (in primer) next to the Travelall & trailer that belonged to Dave Harper. He brought his 289 Cobra that was the LA Fair display car - he bought it new - 3rd in line in top pic.
Edsel Ford was also there - he set the whole thing up. Shortly after is when he got sent to Australia. Rumor was the higher ups didn't like the "race" type atmosphere of this event.
